October is a huge month for fundraiser races across the Central Valley. The pleasant fall weather makes for a great time to be outside.
There are so many races taking place, I couldn’t include each one on our list. Feel free to include those I may have missed in the comment section below.
As always, grab those running shoes, get fit, and support some great local causes! Here’s your guide to October races.
Harvest 5K Run, 3K Walk, and Kids’ Fun Run—Visalia
When: Saturday, Oct. 7
Cost: $25, $15 for kids (Registration ends Wednesday, Oct. 4)
Proceeds from the Harvest Run go towards providing Christmas presents to children and patients undergoing treatment at Sequoia Regional Cancer Center. The race is put on by the Visalia Runners and Kaweah Delta Health Care District, and will take place at The Lifestyle Center.
Fowler Fall Festival 2-Mile Walk/Run
When: Saturday, Oct. 7
Cost: $20
This race at Panzak Park in Fowler supports the Fowler High School Redcats Cross Country Team. Awards will be presented to different age categories. Walkers get awards too!
21st Annual Armenian Relief “Show Me the Finish Line” 2-Mile Walk/Run and Kids’ Fun Run—Fresno
When: Sunday, Oct. 8
Cost: $20, $10 for kids
This race takes place at Fresno’s Woodward Park and benefits the Armenian Relief Society’s Sophia Chapter. Close to 50,000 Armenians call the Central Valley home. Many settled in the Fresno area after surviving the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire during WWI.
9th Annual Rabobank Fiesta Run 2-mile Walk/Run & 5-Mile Run—Reedley
When: Saturday, Oct. 14
Cost: $28, $6 for kids
This race takes place in downtown Reedley and for the first time features a team competition.
Striding Beyond Sight 5K and Kids’ Fun Run—Fresno
When: Saturday, Oct. 14 (Registration ends Oct. 11)
Cost: $30, $5 for kids
This inaugural race at Fresno’s Woodward Park benefits Valley Center for the Blind. The organization offers assistance, including orientation and mobility training and Braille instruction.
Stomp it Out PDA 5K Walk/Run, Kids’ Fun Run and Family Carnival—Clovis
When: Saturday, Oct. 21
Cost: $15, $6 for kids (t-shirt only guaranteed if you sign up by Oct. 12)
This race at Clovis Community College is for the whole family. It’s designed to bring community awareness to prescription drug abuse.
Third Annual Monster Mash Dash 5K—Fresno
When: Saturday, Oct. 28
Cost: $30, $20 for kids
Get in the spirit of Halloween with this fun race at Fresno’s Woodward Park. It’s part of the Holiday Run Series and is locally produced event. Participants will receive glow-in-the-dark event t-shirts and a glow-in-the-dark medallion when you cross the finish line. The event supports the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Madera Guardians of the Flame 5K Fun Run/Walk
When: Saturday, Oct. 28
Cost: $30
This race takes place at Home Grown Cellars in Madera and supports Special Olympics Northern California Athletes.
Valley Oak SPCA Howl-O-Ween Furry 5K Fun Run/Walk—Visalia
When: Saturday, Oct. 28
Cost: $30
This race is for you and your pet! Both can dress up for Halloween. There will be a costume contest. This fun event takes place at Mooney Grove Park.
