Now that the craze has worn off, I wonder how many of you out there use deal sites like Groupon, livingsocial and dealsaver. It seems like there was a time when you couldn’t open your e-mail or Facebook without being hit in the face with a slew of deals. Now the craze has definitely died down, but that doesn’t mean you should stop using the deal sites!
I got to thinking about this because I just had a fabulous weekend at a bed & breakfast located on an elephant reserve – and discovered on Groupon!
These websites are truly great places to find out about local services, entertainment, restaurants and places, while getting to try them at half the price.
Dealsaver from The Fresno Bee is probably the best site for good local deals. They have a variety of offers that change every few days or so. They also frequently offer discount codes, like an additional $5 off a deal or $10 off total deal purchases of $20 or more. Groupon and livingsocial are two other popular websites. Groupon offers 20% off their deals every few weeks, and since the beginning, the premise of livingsocial has been that if you share a deal after you’ve purchased it, and three of your friends also buy it, you will get yours for free.
My favorite two kinds of deals to buy are for beauty services or restaurants. The restaurant thing kind of speaks for itself: Who doesn’t want cheaper food?! And it really is a great and easy way to try out new restaurants.
But what I really like to use it for is to get a massage or a facial. Let’s face it: It can cost an arm and a leg to get a massage (pun semi-intended). And sometimes, you really just want a good back rub or someone to exfoliate your face, not all the fancy stuff that comes with $100 salon services. Many of the services on dealsaver and other sites are offered by local women who operate a small business on their own. The last time I got a massage, I purchased a Groupon for Sierra’s Star Treatment, located in a small office suite in Clovis. She created a nice, serene environment for me and the massage cost less than half of what I would have paid at a day spa!
A couple years ago, I also bought a Groupon for laser hair removal at Mystique Medical Spa and have been a loyal customer ever since. It wasn’t something I could have ever paid for at full price, especially untested, but now that I know how much I love it, I’ve gladly returned!
Now truthfully, it can be a gamble to put yourselves in the hands of someone new. That’s why I always try to find out as much info as possible before making a purchase. Find the business on Yelp, Google them, see if they have a Facebook page with review and information.
You never know what you might discover through these online deals. So go check these websites out!
