Get Your Trail Mix Fix at Braga Organic Farms in Madera

One year, I mailed my friend in Pennsylvania trail mix for her birthday.

Does that sound like a weird present? If so, you don’t know this trail mix. This was raw trail mix from Braga Organic Farms. Made of pistachios, almonds, walnuts, jumbo flame raisins, and organic cranberries, it’s GMO-, peanut- and gluten-free. Basically, it’s like eating tiny pieces of deliciousness.

Braga Organic Farms has long been a staple at local farmer’s markets. Since 2000, the family’s 40 acres of pistachios in Madera has been certified organic. Luckily, they’ve been sharing their harvest with the Valley and beyond.

Recently, they have opened up a new store in Madera. Located on Road 25 and Mitchell Court, it’s about five minutes down Avenue 12 from Highway 99, and it’s worth a visit.

At the new store, you can get trail mix and dates, as well as organic jelly, dried fruits and olive oil. If you have a dear friend in Pennsylvania (or in any state with a severe fresh nut deficiency; AKA anywhere that isn’t California) they’ll ship your order. You can also order from their website.

It may seem weird to mail trail mix to people, but they will thank you later. As Craig pointed out in a previous FresYes post, the Valley is very food-blessed but sometimes we don’t realize it. Send someone in Nebraska fresh raw pistachios, for example, and you’ll realize what a gold mine of green goodness we have in the Valley.

Jeff Braga

Braga Organic Farms is a true family business run by Mike and Julie Braga and their sons. Recently, I stopped by to continue my tradition of gifting trail mix, and Jeff Braga and his epic mutton chops were at the counter ready to help me. He also gave me a reusable shopping bag, which in this day and age is an investment in my sanity. It kills me a little every time I buy 20 yogurts at the grocery store only to find out I forgot my bags. Anyway, my point is, my trip to Braga Farms was a successful and friendly shopping experience.

It’s always nice to know your food purchases are supporting family businesses. Additionally, it’s great to know you’re supporting local agriculture. So, if you’re ever in the area, be sure to stop by the store. It’s a new year! Time to get to know your food (and your neighbors) a little bit better.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
