Blood Brothers free movie screenings presents ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’

Last month, the horror film genre lost one of its great directors when Tobe Hooper passed away at the age of 74. Tonight, Blood Brothers Horror Podcast will honor Hooper with a screening of his 1974 film “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.”

Films range from classic to cult

Each month, Blood Brothers hosts a horror movie screening at Popolo’s Pizza at Palm and Nees in Fresno. The free screenings are a chance for horror fans to get together and enjoy either a cult classic or a more mainstream horror film. Past screenings have included showings of  “The Howling,” “Night of the Demons,” and Joss Whedon’s “Cabin in the Woods.”

Last month’s screening of “Sleepaway Camp” actually featured a visit from actress Felissa Rose, who played “Angela” in the film. Next month will be a Halloween party and a showing of the anthology “Trick ‘r Treat.”

Event includes films and much more

The monthly screenings have become so popular, they now take up both the banquet room at Popolo’s as well as the enclosed patio (the films are shown in both locations). Blood Brothers hosts Chris Fierro, Cesar Ramos Zamora, Michael Affrunti, Junior Gonzales, and Aly Vicious offer more than just a film viewing. There is usually a pre-screening clip reel featuring movie trailers, music, and film facts, and prizes are handed out to those who can answer horror-related trivia questions.

Popolo’s provides a $10 all-you-can-eat pizza and drink special for the screenings. There is also a raffle that helps fund the free event. Tonight’s raffle will feature everything from a cute Halloween-themed pillow to a gift basket featuring popcorn, snacks, and a copy of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” on DVD to a Leatherface Pop Vinyl figure. Actors from Madera’s Raisin Hell Ranch will be on hand and in costume to promote the haunted cornfield attraction, which has provided t-shirts and tickets to give away in the raffle.

All in good, scary fun

Screenings start at 6:30 p.m. I’d suggest getting there pretty early to secure a seat, and going with a fun and respectful attitude—these showings are about appreciation of horror films, not mocking (if you’re looking to make fun of movies, Savage Cinema is also hosting a free movie screening tonight at Full Circle Brewing Co.).

Head YES man at FresYes.com
I grew up in Fresno. Relaxed in its calm breezes, listened with my dad to the crack of the bat at little league baseball games when I was a kid and now take my son to do the same at minor league games. I broadened my mind at its schools (I went to high school right here at San Joaquin Memorial, and to college at Fresno State!) I love that if I drive for two hours in one direction, I can be in the mountains. For two hours in another, luxuriating on a California beach. I can enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere of San Francisco or Los Angeles, but still be able to come home to relaxation, calm, and quiet.

I love where I live, and I also love what I do. I'm lucky to be able to work in a profession in which I get to build relationships; one that has me meeting new people each and every day and helping them to build new lives in my beloved city. I'm lucky enough to work in a profession in which I can marry cutting-edge technologies and marketing techniques to good, old-fashioned, nose-to-the-grindstone work. I am lucky enough to work in a profession that allows me to work as an advocate for my clients; to use every tool at my disposal to get a job done well for them, and with as little stress and expense as possible.

I love my city. I love my job. One inspires my excellence for the other.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
