Halloween Hidden Gem: The Walker Maze

Ted D Walker and his family love Halloween – it’s their favorite holiday. After years without seeing more trick or treaters than could be counted on one hand, Walker and his family (Sabrina Walker, Theresa Curls, & Cheryl Walker) decided they’d find a way to build community in their neighborhood by sharing their love for spooky season.

The Walkers started with a barbecue that they hosted in their front yard under 3 tents, each decked out for Halloween – 8 families from the neighborhood showed up and joined them. That was the start of what is now an annual tradition of building an elaborate, scary, and fun Halloween Maze at the Walker residence in Southeast Fresno.

“(We’ve created) a Halloween maze built for kids, but scary enough for adults — meaning everyone will be able to enjoy it because we can cater the experience to the person,” shares Walker. “This will be our 8th year. In the early years it was much smaller as we built up decorations and the supplies for a maze.”

The Walker Halloween Maze is Accessible to All

The Walker family takes pride in making their maze accessible to all. There is no entry cost, and the intensity and functions of the maze can be altered to accommodate varying needs, including people with autism or specific sensory needs. “We can make all sorts of adjustments before a person enters — doesn’t matter how small or big,” Walker says that he can turn music off, stop blinking lighting, ask actors to unmask or be easily visible for a child to see. “We never say no. I built it (the maze) with the promise that I want everyone to be able to enjoy it.”

The Walkers are celebrating 8 years of bringing Halloween fun to their neighbors and many other families from around the Fresno-area (and beyond) who are happy to enjoy a good haunt. And, believe it or not, they have plans to bring even more fun to families with their next holiday creation, “The Walker Maze: Naughty or Nice Christmas Maze” — it will have two entrances. One for a more traditional Christmas walk, and the other a scary Christmas walk for the naughty.”

Support The Walker Halloween Maze

The Walker family offers their maze at no-cost to the community. They do accept and appreciate donations from those who are able to help them in their mission to bring holiday fun to kids via their Venmo and GoFundMe links. They use any funds received to invest in new decorations and items needed to add on to their maze, and at this time especially, build up their collection for the Christmas walk.

“Our family appreciates all the positive reviews and support from the community. We are glad everyone is enjoying the maze, because we pour our heart into it every year.”

If you’d like to support the awesome work that the Walker family is doing at no cost to the community, you can do so via their Venmo, Cash App, or GoFundMe accounts.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
