Back in September we were happy to announce that Swede Fest was making a come back for 2023. The deadline for submissions is fast approaching – so here’s your warning to get it done!
What is Swede Fest?
Swede Fest is a film festival for sweded films! A sweded film is a homemade, low-budget, summarized recreation of a popular Hollywood movie or TV show.
This public art project was launched in Summer 2008 in Fresno, California, by Roque Rodriguez and Bryan Harley. Swede Fest is the only film festival dedicated to sweded movies and it’s a great way to promote filmmaking in your community. Anyone can make a swede, it’s easy and a lot of fun!
They were inspired by the 2008 comedy film Be Kind Rewind. The films are typically much shorter in length than their originals and use shoe-string budget props to mimic the source material.
THE DEADLINE IS NEAR!
Yep, you can create a sweded film in a weekend, a day, even an afternoon. It’s true. It’s possible. We believe in you. Don’t miss your last chance to see yourself on the big screen!
The deadline for submissions is Sunday, November 12 at 11:59 p.m.
Whether you’re a seasoned swedemaker or a first-timer, it’s all about having fun and celebrating the magic of cinema. So, pick your film, gather your friends and family, and start creating. Then visit swedefest.com/submit and send it to us!
The Rules
• One submission per person.
• Keep it under 4 minutes.
• Keep it friendly for all ages. You can swede R-rated movies like “Pulp Fiction,” just find creative ways to get around things like violence, adult language and nekkidness.
• Embrace the amateur nature of sweding… opt to use objects you have around the house (like cardboard!) rather than spending a lot of money. The real creative genius comes from how your personality and sense of humor shine through. Make these films your own and have fun!
