What’s Hot & Happening December 15 – 17

By FresYes Writing Team

It’s going to be a great weekend even though with the temp hitting 70 on Saturday – is it really Winter? If it wasn’t for all the decorations, and trees and lights you might not know it. We need the temp to drop just so we can proudly wear that Ugly Sweater we worked so hard on. Maybe Winter will come next week.

Did you happen to look up in the sky last night? The Geminid Meteor Shower was at it’s peak. With the moon being just a teeny little sliver (technically a waxing crescent) it was great viewing. Don’t worry if you did, there’s another shower happening this Saturday! Not the same, this is the Comae Berenicid Meteor Shower and your best viewing should be around 11 PM. If you are into those kind of things, on Sunday the Moon and Saturn will be close together. It’s called a appulse. The pair will be too widely separated to fit within the field of view of a telescope, but will be visible to the naked eye or through a pair of binoculars.

FRIDAY:

Forget fancy restaurants and crowded bars – picture this: snuggling up with your special someone in a cozy carriage, clopping through the heart of Old Town Clovis as the sun paints the sky in fiery hues. Sorry, we’ll have no snow, but imagine the rhythmic clip-clop of hooves on cobblestones, the gentle creak of the carriage, and the warm scent of hay filling the air. It’s like stepping straight into a romantic postcard!

Every twist and turn unveils a new gem – a vintage storefront adorned with twinkling fairy lights, a hidden courtyard overflowing with blooming flowers, or a wrought-iron balcony overflowing with laughter. Steal a kiss under the glow of a gaslight, share a chuckle at a passing pup, and lose yourselves in the simple magic of the moment.

Forget fancy menus and awkward silences – let the charm of Old Town do the talking. The air buzzes with the murmur of chatter, the clink of coffee mugs, and the sweet melody of live music spilling from cafes. And with each lurch of the carriage, you’ll feel a little closer, a little warmer, a little more lost in the fairytale of your own making.

So ditch the tired date night routine and hop on a horse-drawn adventure. Old Town Clovis is waiting to weave its magic, one cobblestone click at a time.

Carriage Pick Up & Drop Off is located on Pollasky between Fourth & Fifth Street.

SATURDAY:

Elf! It was released 20 years ago and it’s still one of the Best Christmas Movies (besides Die Hard) ever! Buddy the Elf, all sugar-high and six feet tall in his green tights, barreling through New York City like a runaway candy cane! It’s such a great movie and full of so many small details you’ll not catch the first 30 times you see it.

Did you know…

Since we’re on the topic…

  • Will Farrel wasn’t supposed to play Buddy, it was going to be Jim Carry but he snuck off and played the Grinch.

  • Likewise for the role of Walter. Garry Shandling turned it down leaving it up to James Caan.

  • According to the elves, the four main food groups are “candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup.

  • Before he was famous, Will Ferrell worked as a Santa at an outdoor mall in Pasadena. His SNL pal Chris Kattan was his elf. Can you imagine?

  • One of the deleted scenes from the movie – there was an Elf Hockey Game! It was cut from the movie but we found it YouTube here.

Lucky for us, ELF is playing at The Crest on Saturday!Doors open at 6PM Movie starts at 7PM Tickets are $5 CASH ONLY

* and if you have own an Elf Costume and don’t wear it to the show, are you really a fan?

Head YES man at FresYes.com
I grew up in Fresno. Relaxed in its calm breezes, listened with my dad to the crack of the bat at little league baseball games when I was a kid and now take my son to do the same at minor league games. I broadened my mind at its schools (I went to high school right here at San Joaquin Memorial, and to college at Fresno State!) I love that if I drive for two hours in one direction, I can be in the mountains. For two hours in another, luxuriating on a California beach. I can enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere of San Francisco or Los Angeles, but still be able to come home to relaxation, calm, and quiet.

I love where I live, and I also love what I do. I'm lucky to be able to work in a profession in which I get to build relationships; one that has me meeting new people each and every day and helping them to build new lives in my beloved city. I'm lucky enough to work in a profession in which I can marry cutting-edge technologies and marketing techniques to good, old-fashioned, nose-to-the-grindstone work. I am lucky enough to work in a profession that allows me to work as an advocate for my clients; to use every tool at my disposal to get a job done well for them, and with as little stress and expense as possible.

I love my city. I love my job. One inspires my excellence for the other.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
