Transitioning Back to School: Updates for local families

As COVID numbers trend downward, vaccines become more widely available, and hospital capacity has begun to increase, local schools are beginning to transition some students back to in-person learning for at least a portion of the week. This is a rapidly changing situation, so it can be a little tricky to stay on top of all of the information as things involve, so we thought it would be helpful to provide you with a list of links for COVID updates from each of the major three local school districts, as well as a few general rules of thumb and thoughts to consider as children in your own family begin to have the opportunity to transition back.

If you’re a Fresno Unified family, you can find the most up-to-date information here.

If you’re a Clovis Unified family, you can find the most up-to-date information here.

If you’re a Central Unified family, you can find the most up-to-date information here.

General rules of thumb you can expect for all local schools at this time:
  • All staff and students will be required to wear a face covering while on campus.
  • Neither staff nor students should report to campus in person if they have any of the following symptoms: Fever or chills; Cough; Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing; Fatigue; Muscle or body aches; Headache; New loss of taste or smell; Sore throat; Congestion or runny nose; Nausea or vomiting; Diarrhea; Repeated Shaking/Tremors
  • Schools will be regularly disinfecting surfaces on a schedule
  • Social distancing measures will be in place, including outdoors
  • Temperature checks will be administered as students and staff arrive on campus
  • Tracing and isolation measures will be in place throughout the day if anyone were to become sick during the school day
  • Visitors to campus will not be allowed, only staff and students or volunteers deemed essential by the school – the goal is to keep the number of people on campus as low as possible so there is as much space for students as there can possibly be
  • Elementary and some secondary students will be allowed back on campuses first, due to their smaller class sizes/ease of distancing compared to the larger and mixing classes of older students
  • High school sports are expected to be able to resume practicing in the upcoming week

The CDC has created a very thorough and helpful resource for parents to help make the transition to in-person school as safe as possible, so for those families currently in the process of making this transition, the checklist can be found in PDF form for free download here. It includes tips on everything from helping young children to feel comfortable wearing a mask to helping bolster social emotional supports for older children.

We are all excited to see glimmers of normalcy beginning to return or at least appear on the horizon. Stay safe, be good to one another and stay informed. We love you FresYes families!

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
