It is an honor to recognize eleven amazing and deserving mothers who have been nominated for the honor of receiving one of our two wonderful prizes for the FresYes Mother’s Day Giveaway. Each of these mothers has been nominated by someone that they’ve truly inspired, and it was my pleasure to receive and read each nomination.
Though I wish I had enough prizes for each one, at the very least I have the opportunity to recognize each amazing mom here in this post, as I share a small tidbit of their stories from those who nominated them.
I will then ask for your help in deciding the first and second prize winners.
First Prize:
- A fresh haircut, color, style and deep conditioning treatment from the talented Bailey Donnelly from J. Salon, located at Bullard and Fresno Street
- A 30-minute photography session with skilled photographer Jasen Master of J. Master Photography (mom can show off her new hairstyle in an updated family photo – one of the most requested Mother’s Day gifts!)
Second Prize:
- A delicious, fully-prepared and delivered gourmet family meal with dessert from Hye Girl Snacks Meals and Sweets (because moms want a night off from cooking!)

Janie Torigian
“I nominate my mom, Janie Torigian, because she’s been such a huge help to me throughout my recent (first time) pregnancy, and is always offering to help out with errands, clean up, pick up dinner, etc. -which is every new mom’s life saver. She raised my brother and I as a single parent, and still works two jobs at age 65 all the while taking care of other elderly family members and being a great Nana to our baby girl. She deserves a day of pampering -I don’t remember her ever having one in the last few years!”
Krystal Jepson
“I’d like to submit my daughter, Krystal Jepson for recognition. Krystal’s husband, Andrew, is currently deployed for ten months (this time). He has had four lengthy deployments. Krystal graduated from college, while working full-time raising their two young daughters. When Andrew returns, the family will be relocated to Northern Washington.”
Ginger Marquez
“My mother, Ginger Marquez deserves to be noticed. She is eighty years old, raised six children while working full-time as a single parent. She is a loving grandmother and great grandmother. She has lymphoma but lives independently. She was very involved in her community until illness slowed her down.”
Kendra Rogers
“I nominate Kendra Rogers for your Mother’s Day giveaway. Kendra has spent the last 15 years of her life dedicated to the children of her community, as well as being a mom to Logan and Nova. She served for over a decade as the champion leader of First 5 Fresno County and now serves as the Director of Community Investment for Granville Homes.”
Genelle Kumpe
“I nominate Genelle Kumpe for the Mother’s Day prize. Besides being an awesome mom to Aidan and Ava, Genelle serves as the Executive Director of the Marjoree Mason Center as well as a business owner. She tirelessly serves woman and children who are victims of domestic violence by not only giving them a safe haven, but hope.”
Vanessa Castaneda
“I nominate Vanessa Castaneda. I’ve never met a more loving and hard-working woman. Vanessa loves her family, children and people with great passion; 99.9% percent of her time goes to helping others. Her genuine passion for others is encouraging and inspirational. She deserves the .1% and so much more.”
Brandi Engelman
“The mother I would like to nominate for the Mother’s Day competition is none other than my Amazing Mother, Brandi Engelman. My mom deserves this because she does everything for my sister and I, through thick and thin. She wears herself down to the core to make sure everyone around her is happy.”
Kimberly Gragston
“Kimberly Gragston inspires those around her to be a better friend, wife, and mother. As a full time wife, student, and mom to 2 beautiful girls she puts others first without expectation, leaving little time for herself. There is not a mommy I believe is more deserving than my incredible sister!”
Janice Simmons
“My mom is the most selfless person I know. She always puts the needs of her family before herself. She is so content and doesn’t require much to make her happy. She finds joy in the simple things and brings joy and laughter to those around her. She has always supported me and encouraged me to pursue my dreams. She is a phenomenal “nana” too and will drop everything to help me with my son. She lost her mom a couple years ago and Mother’s Day is a difficult day for her. I would love to pamper her and recognize her for her sacrifices for our family.”
Kelly Perez
“I would like to nominate my mother, Kelly Perez. She is a mother of 5 who sacrificed so much for us while we were growing up. She worked as a custodian, cleaning doctor’s offices at night while going to school during the day to finish the Rad Tech program. She continues to be the most self-sacrificing person I know, giving everything she has to her children and grandchildren. She deserves a day off to relax and be pampered.”
Carly Holiman

“I’d like to nominate Carly Holiman for the mother’s day contest. Carly has adopted three kids, all through foster care. She and her husband are in the process of adopting a fifteen-year-old. He just wanted a chance away from gangs, to have a normal life. They love him and have been raising him as their own. Carly gives fully of herself to everyone. She could definitely use and enjoy some pampering!”
