I’ve been hanging out in The Tower District a lot lately. This last weekend, I was walking around, taking in the sun and smells of Spring. There is some sort of plant or tree that gives off a fruity fragrance (I think it’s honeysuckle, or an orange tree.) that I absolutely love. I usually only smell it around Spring, and almost always in The Tower District. The blooming plant/tree reminds me of my childhood.

Growing up I’ve lived all over Fresno. There was a time when I was 7 or 8 (maybe even younger), when we lived in The Tower. We lived in a small duplex, off of Hedges. I remember when there was a Safeway on the corner of Fruit and McKinley. I also remember my mom often taking us to Angelo’s for burgers and fries. My mom and step-dad had friends who lived in the neighborhood across Fruit. On Spring and Summer days I was allowed to go to their house, and we would walk the neighborhood. One of my fondest memories was when we would go up to people’s homes, take flowers from their garden, make bouquets with those flowers, and then knock on doors, selling those bouquets. Yes, we stole flowers, and sold them back to their owners. Hey, this was the 80’s, people didn’t mind giving hard working kids money! ๐Ÿ˜‰ As an adult, I look back and laugh about this.

Anyway, the smell of Spring always reminds me of this. I had good memories of living in The Tower. Now it’s 30 years later, and I still love The Tower.

There are so many wonderful things about The Tower District, yet I think it sometimes gets a bad wrap. First off, the homes are just adorable. As my grandpa says, “They don’t make homes like they use to.” The homes in The Tower were built to last. There are apartments, studios, single level, double story, and even mansions that make up the area. Secondly, the yards are beautiful, there are trees that line the street for shade. You can often see people walking their dogs, or just taking a stroll. People say hi to one another. Thirdly, there is so much to see and do, and so many places to eat. You can always see a show, look at some art, shop for some records, enjoy a beer, or buy some clothes. Also, some of my favorite restaurants/bakeries are in The Tower-Frosted Cakery, Teazer World Tea Market,ย Piemonte’s Deli, Irene’s Cafe, Mia Cuppa Caffe’ย (Just to name a few.)

Today we made another visit to The Tower. We were tired after going to the zoo, and we all needed a pick me up. That’s when I remembered a fairly new frozen yogurt shop called Cindy’s Frozen Yogurt and Desserts.

Cindy's Frozen Yogurt and Desserts

Cindy’s Frozen Yogurt is located on the southeast corner of Olive and Yosemite, just west of Wishon, across from the Tower Theater.

When we first walked in I was greeted with a friendly hello. The first stop you make is at the bottom bar. If you’d like, there are goodies to put in the bottom of your cup. Today they had some brownies and a German Chocolate Cake to choose from.

After that, you can choose your flavor of frozen yogurt.

They have sorbet, sugar free, and non fat frozen yogurt. So there is a little something for everyone.

Up next? Toppings!!!

If you want something more specific, they have a menu to choose from.

I ended up just getting a cookie-which they make there. They had 3 to choose from-peanut butter, chocolate chip, and sugar. They all looked good, but I figured if I had peanut butter, than maybe it would be considered somewhat healthy? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Here is my daughter’s concoction.

So, I know that this may seem like just a regular run of the mill fro-yo place, but it’s not. What I love about Cindy’s…

  • It’s still fairly new. They celebrated their 1 year anniversary on Valentine’s Day.
  • You can request an event to be held there, all you have to do is ask! I saw on the calendar that they had a study group scheduled earlier in the month.
  • Every Wednesday night from 6-9 they have a Family Fun Nite. This is where they pull out all the boardgames, and put on a family friendly movie. Families come, hang out, play games, and enjoy each other’s company. It’s all about celebrating community!
  • It’s locally owned.
  • It’s in Tower District!

Here are the hours if you plan on going.

Mon-Thu:
12:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Fri-Sat:
12:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Sun:
12:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Next time you’re in The Tower District, enjoying the spring weather, take a stroll over to Cindy’s Frozen Yogurt. It will be a refreshing treat, I promise. ๐Ÿ™‚

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
