Visit Local: Selma

Last weekend my daughter and I went out of town. Okay, so it was only to Selma, but that still counts as going out of town, right? 😉

My daughter has a love for theater. She’s been a part of many plays through school, as well as through CMT. We’ve also been to a handful of musicals at Fresno City College and the Saroyan Theatre. There is something so magical about the theater. When you watch a play or musical, there is an electric charge to the air. It’s all LIVE, and anything can happen. You will see the actors at their very best, doing what they love. Their voices are usually amazing, and often times I’ve been moved by what I’ve seen or heard. This desire to watch a live show was part of the reason why we went to Selma last weekend. (Well, that and my daughter has to watch a performance for one of her classes.)

While my daughter has been performing in CMT shows, she’s met a plethora of wonderful people. As it turns out, some of those people were in the musical we watched at The Selma Arts Center.

The Selma Arts Center
This cute little performing arts center makes for an up close and personal experience with the actors.

The Selma Arts Center is located in the heart of downtown/old town area of Selma. It’s a quaint part of town. There are antique shops, restaurants, and other little businesses lining the area. Before the play, we stopped off at Aimee’s Vanilla Bean Bakery.

How perfect was it that there was a cupcake place right by where we needed to be?! It’s like Selma knows me! So, when in Rome….My daughter and I treated ourselves to a couple of yummy cupcakes.

My daughter really liked this cupcake. The best part? A surprise little peanut butter cup at the bottom!!!

We also drove by a cute little burger place called Wilkin’s Drive-In. I wanted to stop, but we were on a mission to get somewhere else.

Making the drive to Selma made me realize that there is so much that small towns have to offer. I’ve driven through Selma a million times, but have not ever stopped. All I knew about Selma is that they have an Auto Mall. Turns out there were so many different places to visit! I think the next time we drive down to see a play (which we probably will…Check out what’s up and coming at the Selma Arts Center), I’m hoping to stop at a cute little burger place called Wilkin’s Drive-In. When I do, I’ll report back. Unless some of you have been there already and are willing to share! I also think that perhaps I make some trips to little towns around the Valley, as each place has something great to offer!

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
