Baking a Legacy, One Roll at a Time

Sometimes a business starts with a detailed plan, years of preparation, and a carefully mapped-out launch.

And sometimes it starts because your husband wants cinnamon rolls.

For the woman behind Courtney and Co. Bakery, it was definitely the second one.

She only started making cinnamon rolls this year. Her husband wanted some, she decided to try making them completely from scratch, and, as she puts it, “the rest is history.”

What began as something fun in her own kitchen quickly turned into a home bakery built around homemade cinnamon rolls, creative flavors, family, and a love of baking that actually goes back a lot further than this year.

Baking Has Always Been Part of the Story

Courtney and Co. Bakery officially started on April 25, 2026, but the seeds for it were planted years ago.

Her very first job was at the Great Harvest Bread Company that used to be at Champlain and Perrin. At 16, she wanted a job and had gotten a work permit, so she started baking things and bringing them to the owner.

She kept doing it until, eventually, he pretty much had to hire her.

That persistence came with some encouragement from her dad, who told her to keep going.

Her father was one of her biggest supporters before he passed away in 2015, and entrepreneurship runs through the family. He once owned a beauty supply store, while her grandmother owned a hair salon and worked as a hairstylist.

“I guess owning a business is a little in my blood,” she says.

I think there’s something pretty special about that. A teenager who loved to bake grew up, started a family, and eventually found her way back to the kitchen, this time building something of her own.

A Bakery Built Around Family

Right now, growing the biggest bakery possible isn’t the goal.

Being a mom is.

She homeschools her oldest child and loves being home with her kids, while still having something creative and productive that is hers.

That’s what makes a home bakery such a good fit.

She can make cinnamon rolls from home, build a business, and still be there while her kids are young.

“My main priority right now is just being the best mom I can be to my kids,” she says. “I also want them to have something when I’m gone, which is why I started my little bakery.”

For her, Courtney and Co. Bakery is about creating something that can grow alongside her family and, hopefully, become something meaningful she can leave behind for her children.

These Aren’t Your Basic Cinnamon Rolls

Everything starts with homemade cinnamon rolls and homemade frosting, but she especially loves getting creative.

Holidays are a favorite.

With Halloween around the corner, she has already started experimenting with themed cinnamon rolls and has more ideas on the way. Trying new flavors, designs, and combinations is one of her favorite parts of running the bakery.

And people are beginning to notice.

In just a few months, Courtney and Co. Bakery has already been featured in a magazine and highlighted by a local reviewer for Small Business Sunday.

But the feedback that means the most is much simpler.

It’s hearing someone say they loved her cinnamon rolls.

For a small home baker putting so much time and care into every batch, those little moments matter.

The Dream? Cinnamon Rolls in the Mountains

Ask her where she’d love to take all of this someday, and the answer is pretty great.

There’s no rush to get there. For now, she’s focused on her kids, her home bakery, and continuing to make something people genuinely enjoy.

But I can already picture that little mountain cinnamon roll shop, and I hope she gets there one day.

Until then, Courtney and Co. Bakery is proof that you don’t necessarily need a storefront or some giant business plan to start building something meaningful.

Sometimes you just need a kitchen, a recipe, a little creativity, and someone asking, “Can you make cinnamon rolls?”
