What’s Hot & Happening December 22 – 24

By FresYes Writing Team

We’re in for great weather this weekend with just a small chance of rain here and there. Yesterday was the Winter Solstice which of course marks a crucial point in Earth’s tilt away from the Sun, known as the shortest day of the year here in the Northern Hemisphere. It’s also the longest night just in case you hadn’t figured that one out. Sunrise yesterday was at 7:07 and set at 4:46 while today we’ve got the sun setting at a whopping 4:47 PM! What will you do with that whole minute of extra daylight?

DID YOU KNOW: Down south (in the Southern Hemisphere) it’s the Summer Solstice for them. Of course you knew!

Across diverse cultures, the solstice holds significance, often honored through festivals and rituals that celebrate the sun’s rebirth and the promise of longer days ahead.

Ursid Meteor Shower

With the Winter Solstice comes an annual meteor shower associated with the comet 8P/Tuttle, known for its peak activity close to the December Solstice, appearing to originate from the constellation Ursa Minor. This year the Ursid Meteor Shower will peak on today, December 22. But with the Waxing Gibbous moon at 84.5% illumination, and our partly cloudy skies, it may be difficult to spot many meteors this year. Bummer.

Yes, it’s that weird time of the year when very little organized events happen, especially when Christmas falls on a Monday. We prefer to take a positive spin on it and look at it as a great time to focus on friends and family. So gather the Fam and let’s all do something special this weekend!

Horse Drawn Carriage Rides!

We mentioned this last week. The Carriage Rides will be back in Old Town this Saturday, December 23. Catch your last chance for a ride on at the pick up station located on Pollasky between Fourth and Fifth. Free rides will be available from 1pm – 4pm. There’s nothing like a horse-drawn carriage ride through the beautifully decorated streets of Old Town Clovis!

It’s a Wonderful Life!

We hope you think so too. If you are a classic movie fan it’s one of the best, starring James Stewart and Donna Reed. We found the original Trailer here. Most everyone knows the line, “When a bell rings, an angel gets it’s wings” but for us we have a different quote that always makes us smile, “Boys and girls and music — why do they need gin?“.

It’s playing at The Crest tonight. It’s such a great story, a classic movie and a Christmas staple – for $5 you simply can’t go wrong.

Go Ice Skating!

It’s Winter Wonderland time at Gateway Ice Center. They have expanded and special hours for public skate – with a late night tonight until midnight! You don’t have to be Brian Boitano, Kristi Yamaguchi or a Michelle Kwan to get out on the ice and have fun. We promise, you’ll not stop smiling, nor will any of the family, the whole time you’re out there. Gateway Ice is at 2473 N Marks Ave, Fresno, CA 93722

Here’s their weekend schedule:

Head YES man at FresYes.com
I grew up in Fresno. Relaxed in its calm breezes, listened with my dad to the crack of the bat at little league baseball games when I was a kid and now take my son to do the same at minor league games. I broadened my mind at its schools (I went to high school right here at San Joaquin Memorial, and to college at Fresno State!) I love that if I drive for two hours in one direction, I can be in the mountains. For two hours in another, luxuriating on a California beach. I can enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere of San Francisco or Los Angeles, but still be able to come home to relaxation, calm, and quiet.

I love where I live, and I also love what I do. I'm lucky to be able to work in a profession in which I get to build relationships; one that has me meeting new people each and every day and helping them to build new lives in my beloved city. I'm lucky enough to work in a profession in which I can marry cutting-edge technologies and marketing techniques to good, old-fashioned, nose-to-the-grindstone work. I am lucky enough to work in a profession that allows me to work as an advocate for my clients; to use every tool at my disposal to get a job done well for them, and with as little stress and expense as possible.

I love my city. I love my job. One inspires my excellence for the other.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
