What’s Hot & Happening August 25 – 27

By FresYes Writing Team

Lowrider at The Fulton St Party

Happy Friday! We’re in for a wonderful weekend with clear skies, just a slight breeze a no precipitation. The Kids are back in school and we’re all getting back into the groove again.

We saw something deeply troubling yesterday. Something that shook us to the core. Now, we don’t want to alarm you and there’s absolutely no reason to panic. Don’t pull that vacuum bag of fall sweaters out of the attic yet. We’ve been searching for the words to say since we saw it and honestly we just can’t.

There’s no easy way to say this…

Yeah. That.

It’s kind of like Christmas decorations in the stores and it’s not yet even Halloween. Truth be told, it’s the marketing department’s fault. It’s always some marketing department to blame, right? Apparently, Dunkin’ moved their Pumpkin Spice launch up a few weeks and so the Venti Marketing Department at FiveBucks decided to not be out marketed.

Also worth noting… 20th year? That’s impressive! But, then we googled the Shamrock Shake from Micky D and surprise, the minty cool shake was introduced in 1970!

Friday – Tonight could go one of two ways. Are you more into Rock & Roll or more into Motown? If it’s Rock & Roll, we have to ask…

Do you believe in rock ‘n’ roll? Can music save your mortal soul? And can you teach us how to dance, real slow? See, you already know the words to the song. So Drive your Chevy to the Levee (ok, the Tower Theatre) and see Don Mclean do his thing. Get tickets HERE.

Now, if Motown is more your thing you have to go see Gladys Knight! No Pips, but the woman has won no fewer than 7 Grammy Awards! You know all the words to her show too! Sing along with us…

He’s leaving (leaving)

On that midnight train to Georgia (leaving on a midnight train)

Hmm, yeah

Said he’s going back (going back to find)

To a simpler place and time (and when he takes that ride)

Oh yes, he is (guess who’s gonna sit right by his side)

Get your tickets to Gladys HERE

Don’t Forget: Saturday the FresYes Quiz goes live. Easy questions and this week we’re giving away a gift certificate to Eureka! Home of the FresYes Burger. (we’ll keep trying).

Saturday – there’s only one place to go after you get that first PSL of the season. That’s The Fulton Street Party. Natali just wrote about it on Thursday! The event starts at 4 PM and goes to 11. It’s downtown on Fulton between Mono and Merced. We’re starting out at the car show happening across Inyo from Tioga-Sequoia. Low riders, custom cars, and you know there might be a few exotics. Art on wheels.

We’ll probably grab a beer at TS but there’s also a beer garden at Mariposa Plaza to check out. There will be plenty of great food so we’ll have to scope out what looks best. As for the music… 70 performers / 13 stages? Are you kidding? One thing you must check out is the Silent Disco. It goes from 9 to 11 at the Hashtag Balance HQ. Check out the .pdf link below for all the info.

Download this very comprehensive 12 page guide HERE.

Serious question. Is it the “Fulton Street, Party” or the “Fulton, Street Party“? Which/where do you put the comma/emphasis?

For Sunday – to balance out all that partying – let’s add a little culture. How about a little Opera? No, we’re serious. The California Opera is doing Verdi’s “La Traviata”. It’s a great story. Unlike Don or Gladys, we can pretty much guarantee you won’t know the words to this one, but you’ll certainly recognize the music. We’ll help with the plot. Remember the movie “Pretty Woman” starring George Costanza? (and Julia Roberts and Richard Gere). That’s basically it! Well, close enough. If you’ve never seen an opera – this would be a great first!

You can find tickets HERE.

Did you know?

This opera uses 12 different voices ranging from the high of the soprano to the low of the bass. In this, our hero Violetta Valéry is a soprano, her friend Flora Bervoix is a mezzo-soprano (just a little bit lower). The male lead, Alfredo Germont needs to sing as a tenor while his father, Giorgio sings as a baritone – (once again, just a little lower). For the record, Luciano Pavarotti is a tenor and has played the part of Alfredo.

If an opera is too much of a stretch, a number of Fresno-area movie theaters will participate in National Cinema Day on Sunday, Aug. 27, offering all movies — in all formats and at all showtimes — for just $4. Watch our Instagram for details! Just know that you traded a classic opera for a Barbie. Can you live with that?

Head YES man at FresYes.com
I grew up in Fresno. Relaxed in its calm breezes, listened with my dad to the crack of the bat at little league baseball games when I was a kid and now take my son to do the same at minor league games. I broadened my mind at its schools (I went to high school right here at San Joaquin Memorial, and to college at Fresno State!) I love that if I drive for two hours in one direction, I can be in the mountains. For two hours in another, luxuriating on a California beach. I can enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere of San Francisco or Los Angeles, but still be able to come home to relaxation, calm, and quiet.

I love where I live, and I also love what I do. I'm lucky to be able to work in a profession in which I get to build relationships; one that has me meeting new people each and every day and helping them to build new lives in my beloved city. I'm lucky enough to work in a profession in which I can marry cutting-edge technologies and marketing techniques to good, old-fashioned, nose-to-the-grindstone work. I am lucky enough to work in a profession that allows me to work as an advocate for my clients; to use every tool at my disposal to get a job done well for them, and with as little stress and expense as possible.

I love my city. I love my job. One inspires my excellence for the other.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
