International Women’s Day: Celebrating the Women Who Shape Fresno

Every year on March 8, people across the globe celebrate International Women’s Day, a day dedicated to honoring the achievements, resilience, and impact of women in every corner of society.

But here in Fresno and Clovis, it’s also a moment to pause and recognize the women who make our community stronger every single day.

From entrepreneurs and educators to healthcare workers, moms, volunteers, artists, and community leaders, women are shaping the Central Valley in ways big and small.

The Roots of International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day has been celebrated for over a century. The first official observance happened in 1911, when more than a million people across Europe gathered to advocate for women’s rights, including the right to work, vote, and hold public office.

Today, the day has evolved into a global celebration of women’s achievements while also highlighting the ongoing work needed to create equal opportunities for all.

And while the global message is powerful, it’s the local stories that often inspire us the most.

Women Leading the Way in the Central Valley

Look around Fresno and Clovis and you’ll see women leading in every sector.

Women are launching small businesses in the Tower District, running nonprofit organizations that serve our most vulnerable neighbors, teaching the next generation of Valley kids, and building companies that employ hundreds of people.

You’ll find women:

  • Leading community initiatives
  • Coaching youth sports teams
  • Running local restaurants and shops
  • Serving in healthcare and education
  • Building careers in real estate, agriculture, tech, and entrepreneurship

In many cases, they’re also balancing careers with raising families, supporting friends, and volunteering in their communities.

How You Can Celebrate Today

International Women’s Day doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes the best way to celebrate is simply to acknowledge and support the women around us.

A few simple ideas:

  • Thank a woman who has influenced your life
  • Support a woman-owned local business
  • Share a story about a woman who inspires you
  • Encourage young girls to pursue their dreams

Small gestures go a long way.

A Fresno Perspective

Here at FresYes, we’re constantly inspired by the women we meet while telling stories about our city. They’re the entrepreneurs opening new restaurants, the volunteers helping neighbors, the teachers shaping future leaders, and the moms raising incredible kids.

They’re part of what makes Fresno such a special place to live.

So today, and every day, we celebrate the women who show up, work hard, care deeply, and make this community better for all of us.

Happy International Women’s Day.

And to the women of Fresno and Clovis — thank you for everything you do.

Head YES man at FresYes.com
I grew up in Fresno. Relaxed in its calm breezes, listened with my dad to the crack of the bat at little league baseball games when I was a kid and now take my son to do the same at minor league games. I broadened my mind at its schools (I went to high school right here at San Joaquin Memorial, and to college at Fresno State!) I love that if I drive for two hours in one direction, I can be in the mountains. For two hours in another, luxuriating on a California beach. I can enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere of San Francisco or Los Angeles, but still be able to come home to relaxation, calm, and quiet.

I love where I live, and I also love what I do. I'm lucky to be able to work in a profession in which I get to build relationships; one that has me meeting new people each and every day and helping them to build new lives in my beloved city. I'm lucky enough to work in a profession in which I can marry cutting-edge technologies and marketing techniques to good, old-fashioned, nose-to-the-grindstone work. I am lucky enough to work in a profession that allows me to work as an advocate for my clients; to use every tool at my disposal to get a job done well for them, and with as little stress and expense as possible.

I love my city. I love my job. One inspires my excellence for the other.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
