Is that good ol’ American front porch making a come back?

There is something magical about walking or driving down the street and seeing people sitting on their front porch. A nod of the head, a welcoming wave or perhaps even a handshake and invite for something cold to drink.

Is it possible that in response to sheltering in place, technological changes, and social pressures that the American porch is now returning?

Once upon a time, I imagine the good ol’ American front porch was a place where things of importance would happen, or maybe nothing at all would – for me, right now the later sounds a bit more appealing.

It’s hard to remember life before the internet, netflix, and fortnite but that time did exist. Instead of entertaining ourselves on our coaches we hung out outside with our family, friends and get this… our neighbors. The front porch served as an outdoor living room where people would gather and enjoy a cool summer breeze and each other’s company.  It brought the neighborhood together and created some awareness of others.

Today we have more technology, tools, and access to media than ever. It is supposed to help us accomplish more in less time but most everyone I know feels like that they are now busier than ever keeping up with all that they have to do. They are so busy in fact that they now feel they don’t have any time at all.  The tools haven’t saved time – they’ve taken it.  Perhaps now is the time to disconnect from the tech and connect with the porch… The porch can once again be a place where life slows down a little and allows us some much needed time to reconnect with ourselves, our family and our friends.

Can you imagine for a moment  doing nothing more than sitting on a white wooden chair with an iced lemonade in your hand – kids on a front porch swing, making it move back and forth by pushing their outstretched tiny feet against the wooden floor.  Oh the life it could be…

My reflection on the good ol’ American porch was inspired by a home I recently put on the market for sale.  It’s located at 14689 Academy Oaks Lane in Clovis, CA.  Below is a video of the home, I hope you find it as magical and inspiring as I have. If you have any questions on the home or would like to arrange a time for a private viewing please email me at jason@fresyes.com or call me directly at 559-708-8768

Head YES man at FresYes.com
I grew up in Fresno. Relaxed in its calm breezes, listened with my dad to the crack of the bat at little league baseball games when I was a kid and now take my son to do the same at minor league games. I broadened my mind at its schools (I went to high school right here at San Joaquin Memorial, and to college at Fresno State!) I love that if I drive for two hours in one direction, I can be in the mountains. For two hours in another, luxuriating on a California beach. I can enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere of San Francisco or Los Angeles, but still be able to come home to relaxation, calm, and quiet.

I love where I live, and I also love what I do. I'm lucky to be able to work in a profession in which I get to build relationships; one that has me meeting new people each and every day and helping them to build new lives in my beloved city. I'm lucky enough to work in a profession in which I can marry cutting-edge technologies and marketing techniques to good, old-fashioned, nose-to-the-grindstone work. I am lucky enough to work in a profession that allows me to work as an advocate for my clients; to use every tool at my disposal to get a job done well for them, and with as little stress and expense as possible.

I love my city. I love my job. One inspires my excellence for the other.

Fresno? I say FresYES

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
