Top Winter Activities Around Fresno

Winter in Fresno is a season full of fun and memorable activities. Whether you want to embrace the chill outdoors or enjoy cozy indoor moments, Fresno has something for everyone. Here’s your guide to making the most of the season.

1. Skate Under the Stars at the Downtown Fresno Ice Rink

One of the most magical winter experiences in Fresno is skating at the Downtown Fresno Ice Rink. Located in the heart of the city, this seasonal attraction is perfect for a family outing, date night, or a fun evening with friends. Glide across the ice while enjoying the festive atmosphere under the city lights.

2. Play in the Snow at Shaver Lake and China Peak

A short drive up the Sierra Nevada foothills will take you to winter wonderlands like Shaver Lake and China Peak Mountain Resort. Enjoy sledding, building snowmen, or simply soaking in the serene beauty of the snow-covered landscape. For skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts, China Peak offers slopes for all levels.

3. Explore Woodward Park’s Winter Charm

Fresno’s beloved Woodward Park is a must-visit in winter. Take a brisk walk along the trails, enjoy the frost-covered trees, or find tranquility at the Shinzen Friendship Garden. The park’s winter beauty is perfect for recharging after the holiday rush.

4. Sip & Savor at Local Wineries

Winter is an ideal time to explore Fresno’s vibrant wine scene. Visit Engelmann Cellars, Fäsi Estate Winery, or other local favorites to warm up with tastings of their best blends. Many wineries offer cozy indoor spaces where you can relax with a glass of wine and great company.

5. Take a Day Trip to Yosemite in Winter

There’s nothing quite like Yosemite National Park during the winter. Just a short drive from Fresno, the park transforms into a snowy paradise with incredible views of snow-dusted cliffs and serene meadows. Don’t miss the chance to see Yosemite Falls or the beauty of Half Dome in the snow.

6. Volunteer and Spread the Warmth

The winter season is a great time to give back. Organizations like the Poverello House and Central California Food Bank are always looking for volunteers. Spend a day helping those in need and feel the warmth of giving during the colder months.

7. Treat Yourself to Local Winter Comfort Foods

Indulge in warm and hearty meals at Fresno’s top restaurants. Local favorites like Dusty Buns, Annex Kitchen, and Mediterranean Grill & Café serve delicious dishes that are perfect for chilly days. Don’t forget to try seasonal desserts and warm beverages from bakeries like La Boulangerie.

8. Cheer on the Fresno State Bulldogs

Winter means basketball season! Catch a Fresno State Bulldogs game and soak in the energy of a live sporting event. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just looking for a fun night out, it’s a great way to stay entertained indoors.

From skating downtown to exploring snowy landscapes, Fresno has plenty of ways to make your winter special. Whether you’re staying local or venturing a bit further, there’s no shortage of activities to enjoy.

Head YES man at FresYes.com
I grew up in Fresno. Relaxed in its calm breezes, listened with my dad to the crack of the bat at little league baseball games when I was a kid and now take my son to do the same at minor league games. I broadened my mind at its schools (I went to high school right here at San Joaquin Memorial, and to college at Fresno State!) I love that if I drive for two hours in one direction, I can be in the mountains. For two hours in another, luxuriating on a California beach. I can enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere of San Francisco or Los Angeles, but still be able to come home to relaxation, calm, and quiet.

I love where I live, and I also love what I do. I'm lucky to be able to work in a profession in which I get to build relationships; one that has me meeting new people each and every day and helping them to build new lives in my beloved city. I'm lucky enough to work in a profession in which I can marry cutting-edge technologies and marketing techniques to good, old-fashioned, nose-to-the-grindstone work. I am lucky enough to work in a profession that allows me to work as an advocate for my clients; to use every tool at my disposal to get a job done well for them, and with as little stress and expense as possible.

I love my city. I love my job. One inspires my excellence for the other.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
