Whether it’s a rainy day outside or you are quarantining to stay COVID safe, everyone needs ideas to stay active and avoid boredom indoors.

If you are staying indoors, there is always social media to keep you entertained. Social media has tons of content that makes you laugh and helps you learn something. But if you donโ€™t want to stay on your phone all day, and you are looking for more ideas to spend your time, we have you covered! Some of the best indoor activities are ones that anyone can do, and help you have an exciting day without ever leaving your home!

Here are our top indoor activities:

Put your phone away and get Off-Screen

It’s important to get off your screens every once in a while; it is healthy for your eyes and it helps your mind relax! With digital screens being a part of our daily lives, here are some ways you can avoid screen time and enjoy your day indoors.

Build something cool with a Lego set (or two)

Big shout out to my trainer for this idea. He builds some of the most interesting things by combining Lego sets – I’m definitely going to start doing this myself. Seriously how cool is this picture he took of what he built?!

Build a Fort

No matter your age, building a fort can be a fun activity! Take apart your couch cushions, gather blankets, chairs, and pillows from around the house, and start building! You can bring in flashlights and Christmas lights to make it cozy too.

Play a Board Game or Card Game

If you are staying indoors with others in your household, get everyone together for a board game or card game! You can choose a low-stress board game, or a strategic card game to liven the competitive spirit, as well as keep everyone away from screens for an hour or two.

Start a Puzzle

Puzzles are great to both engage the mind and consume some time in your day. You can play some music and start sorting pieces by yourself, or get others involved and take some time to chat!

Start a Scrapbook

Have any momentos or pictures that youโ€™re not sure what to do with? Start a scrapbook! There are books specifically meant for scrapbooks, but you can use a notebook, colored pens, pencils, some tape, and have some fun creating!

Play with Play-Doh or Kinetic Sand

Anyone can play with play-doh or kinetic sand! It is an awesome family activity for younger kids, but it can also be fun and relaxing for adults. Create sculptures out of play-doh, and enjoy the moldability of kinetic sand.

Start a New Book

Books are always a great alternative to screen time. You can enjoy a brand new story while spending some time alone! If sitting and reading a book isnโ€™t your thing, audiobooks allow you to move around, maybe clean your house, while consuming the same story.

Okay you get get your phone out – On-Screen

Don’t worry – we know that spending some time on your phone or computer is inevitable! Social media and streaming services provide a multitude of options to help you spend your time inside, like:

Make Tik Toks

Tik Tok is an app where you can watch short-form videos, and create videos of your own! Tik Tok has many different dance trends that you can learn, and many filters and effects that you can explore to make fun content.

Play Virtual Board Games

There are many smartphone apps and texting features that allow uses to play board games virtually! With virtual board games, you can still spend time with people far away, or who are also quarantining.

Have a Movie Day

Streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+ give you access to tons of your favorite movies! You can make a night out of it, by popping some popcorn, eating some sweets, and watching a marathon of your favorite movies. You could catch up on the most recent Marvel movies, or start a new TV series!

Play Video Games

Video games are a great way to get auditory and visual stimulation while allowing you to engage with the media. You can play video games by yourself to beat the next level or progress through the story. There are many multiplayer video game options, allowing you to play with other people within your home, or play with others with the same video game!

Video Chat With Your Loved Ones

Apps like Zoom and Skype have gained popularity these past few years, as they help you connect with your loved ones without leaving your home! Take the chance to catch up with your friends and family, not just through text, but by seeing their faces.

Learn an Instrument

If you have an instrument around your house that you have always wanted to learn, now is your chance! Use resources online like How-To blogs and YouTube videos to help you learn. If you already own and know how to play an instrument, you can learn to play a new song, or even write a new song!

Learn a Language

Learning a new language is a great way to engage your mind. You can learn a new language by using an app like Duolingo or using language learning resources online.

Learn a New Craft

Crafts like knitting, embroidery, or crochet help you create something brand new! You can spend some time learning a new way to craft and even set a goal of creating a new hat, scarf, or decoration. You can also use this time to have zero expectations of yourself, and craft as a form of creative expression.

Relax

Donโ€™t stress yourself out too much as you are learning something new or are starting new activities. Remember to use this time to relax as well. Here are a few ways that you can wind down to enjoy your time inside:

Have a Spa Day

Going to an actual spa may not be an option at the moment, but that doesnโ€™t mean you can’t make an at-home spa! Use some face masks, draw a bubble bath, play some relaxing music, and spend some time taking care of yourself!

Find New Music

If you are tired of listening to the same music, use apps like Spotify and Apple Music to expand your listening horizon. Finding new music can be exciting, and you may even find a new favorite song! You can do this while spending time alone to relax.

Journal

It can be a stressful time when you can only spend your day indoors. Let that stress out and express your emotions by journaling. Many like to handwrite in a paper notebook, while others like to type it out on their computer. Whatever you choose, it is a great way to be alone with your thoughts, and relieve some stress.

Wrapping Up

The best indoor activities help you get the most out of your day, without adding any more stress! Whether you choose to stay off your screen or use the internet to your full advantage, there are many ways that you can have a fun and exciting day indoors!

We hope our list of top indoor activities sparked some inspiration for you, and that you can truly appreciate your time at home!

Head YES man at FresYes.com
I grew up in Fresno. Relaxed in its calm breezes, listened with my dad to the crack of the bat at little league baseball games when I was a kid and now take my son to do the same at minor league games. I broadened my mind at its schools (I went to high school right here at San Joaquin Memorial, and to college at Fresno State!) I love that if I drive for two hours in one direction, I can be in the mountains. For two hours in another, luxuriating on a California beach. I can enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere of San Francisco or Los Angeles, but still be able to come home to relaxation, calm, and quiet.

I love where I live, and I also love what I do. I'm lucky to be able to work in a profession in which I get to build relationships; one that has me meeting new people each and every day and helping them to build new lives in my beloved city. I'm lucky enough to work in a profession in which I can marry cutting-edge technologies and marketing techniques to good, old-fashioned, nose-to-the-grindstone work. I am lucky enough to work in a profession that allows me to work as an advocate for my clients; to use every tool at my disposal to get a job done well for them, and with as little stress and expense as possible.

I love my city. I love my job. One inspires my excellence for the other.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
