Take a moment and think about this question: What do moms really want for Mother’s Day?
What came to mind? Was it jewelry? Giftcards? Flowers? Chocolates? Turns out, what moms really want is simpler (and in many cases a whole lot more affordable!) than you’d think. In a recent (informal) poll, 32 moms offered the following as their top three wishlist “items” for Mother’s Day gifts:
The #1 MOST Requested Mother’s Day Gift:
A clean house that they themselves did NOT have to clean – whether it was cleaned professionally or by other family members, this was the most common request!

A family dinner that they did not have to cook or clean up (two moms specifically requested a barbecue dinner). Everyone seemed to want dinner to be with their family.

A spa day consisting of a manicure and pedicure and/or a massage.

Tied for 4th place was a day with no siblings fighting or scolding from mom necessary AND alone time (in some cases this included coffee, in others, a nap).

Many moms really would just love a homemade card from their children (or to simply be told that they are appreciated and loved).

Tied for 6th place are a piece of jewelry with all of the family members birthstones and having the laundry done from sorting to folding and putting away by anyone but mom.
Runners up:
A day spent with kids doing whatever they wanted that was fun, a zoo trip with the family, going out to eat for breakfast and lunch, family movie time, an updated family picture, a foot spa, rain for the Central Valley, eggs benedict (I feel I should bold that because one mom wants it so bad, so listed it as all three of her top choices – I sure hope she gets some!), a day at the coast, breakfast in bed, a picnic with the family, a tattoo that somehow honors all family members and finally… the ability to go back in time and cherish their children’s days slowly.
As you can see – much of this list of what mother’s actually, truly want most isn’t from the wallet, but in fact from the heart! So, may I encourage everyone to check this list (maybe two, three or ten times?) in the next couple of weeks and honor mom with perhaps a clean house, some sweet homemade cards and a dinner she doesn’t have to cook or clean up – I bet she’d really like it!
