Yerevan Armenian Restaurant Review

Yerevan Armenian Restaurant

When I saw that there were new owners at Yerevan Armenian Restaurant, I just had to check it out. Unlike many of the neighboring restaurants, you can’t see inside, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.

You walk in, and it’s not fancy, but it’s nice. The new owners are super warm and welcoming. And I have to admit, not having lookie-loos peer in while you’re eating is a nice touch!

The food was great- solid Armenian fare, with appetizers, drink, and entree, all inclusive, for $8.99. There are two main options, lulu kebab or chicken kebab, although they did offer a special plate with lamb chops that was a little extra.

Kilikia beer
Mmmmmm….beer!

They also serve Armenian beer and wine. I’m not much of a drinker, but my husband “took one for the team” so to speak, and tried the beer, which he really enjoyed (in the name of research).

My toddler ate all the tabbouleh.
Amazing appetizers.

Then the appetizers showed up. Pro tip- if you’re eating at Yerevan, come hungry. And maybe bring a few extra friends! It was a great sampler platter, with an assortment of dips and cold salads- pita bread, hummus, cucumber yogurt dip (Jajik), tabbouleh, a simple marinated lettuce salad, yalanchi, and some pickled veggies (Toorshi). What a bonanza!

Yum!
Lulu/chicken combo plate.

I’m glad I paced myself, because the dinner plates were equally generous and did not disappoint. Heaping scoops of pilaf, some roasted veggies, and we’d ordered both the lulu and the chicken so I could try them both. If you can’t decide, they’ll also do half and half for you- just ask!

Lulu kebab is my favorite, and Yerevan’s is delicious. They don’t serve it on the skewer, which, as I am a klutz, I greatly appreciate. Nobody wants to send an errant chunk of meat flying across the table, right? (Trust the voice of experience – you don’t!)

The ground lamb/beef lulu was savory and flavorful. I also enjoyed the chicken- a lighter choice, it was juicy, the seasoning was just right, and it was well complemented by the creamy garlic sauce they serve with it.

If great food, at a reasonable price, and service with a smile sounds like your cup of tea, Yerevan Armenian Restaurant is located at 7747 N. 1st St., on the Northwest corner of 1st and Nees. They’re open from 10AM to 9PM Monday through Saturday, and closed on Sundays. They also host and cater events for up to 60 people, with a more extensive menu. If you have more questions, give them a call at 559-432-4178, and tell them FresYes sent you!

I'm a seasoned traveler, am intrigued by just about anything creative, and enjoy activities that run the gamut- knitting, downhill skiing, reading, and swing dancing, just to name a few. And of course, I write.

I was born in Fresno and grew up here, as did my husband and my parents. I'm thrilled to be raising my young son here too! I've gone away for school and spent brief periods in other parts of California, but have always ended up homesick for my hometown.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
