So tell us, who are you, where did you come from, and what do you do?
I am Anna Covarrubias and I am a proud single mother of two kids. I was born and raised in the Central Valley and I am so happy to bring my love of pie to Fresno dessert lovers and everyone who visits Fresno. I established The Pie Mamas as a way to create a business that brings me joy and can be used as an example of combining work and happiness for my kids to value for their future. The Pie Mamas name represents all mamas and the sweetness we bring to the lives of our families and friends.
And tell us about this Pie business of yours.
The Pie Mamas have been in business for almost two and half years now with the support from family, friends, and the great community of Fresno. We are a locally sourced cottage licensed pie bakery. We pride ourselves in the art of our pies and most importantly the flavors we bring. From the all buttered crust to the perfectly spiced apple pie; we take pride in what we bake and want to share it with the world. The Pie Mamas came to be when I had been working from home during the Pandemic and began to have more time with my kids, this also meant I had some extra time on my hands to make myself happy. I started by purchasing a kitchen aid mixer and began baking.
My mom has been a big inspiration on this journey because all my life she studied recipes from antique cookbooks and always had something sweet in the house. This was my main inspiration while creating The Pie Mamas. I want to be the inspiration to my kiddos that anything can become a career as long as you have a passion for it. Passion is what drives me to bring the art of pie to the Central Valley.
What is it that you think makes The Pie Mamas stand out?
The designs that are created for the pies are what makes The Pie Mamas stand out. The attention to detail in the designs show the amount of time and love we put into the pies. Not only the design is what makes the pies stand out, but also the flavors we bring to the pies. Many of our customers stated that they were not pie people until they tried The Pie Mamas, so that speaks volumes!
Lastly, we pride ourselves in providing locally sourced fruit, butter and other products to create a delectable pie. That is the benefit of living in the valley and we love to represent that in the pie process.
What is it that most people don’t know about the pie biz?
Pie takes a lot of time. To create a handcrafted pie there is a long process that goes into it and although I love doing it, there is a lot of personal time that is taken up by it. Nothing is made with machinery, so to get the pie orders filled in time I usually ask to place the orders at least three days in advance to make sure I have the ingredients and volunteers if I take on a lot of orders.
What’s coming up for you?
Our next event that we will be at is on Saturday July 29th, at Ziveli Winery from 6pm to 9pm. On Wednesday July 26th we will be at the Kern Street Market Downtown Fresno from 10am to 1pm. On August 3rd we will be hosting ArtHop at The Pi Shop on Broadway and Amador from 6pm to 9pm. We host ArtHop once a month on the first Thursday of the month at The Pi Shop.
While we do attend events throughout Fresno, we are always taking orders for pick up and delivery around Fresno/Clovis areas, we also offer catering orders and we are always updating our event locations on our social media so the community can stay updated and informed of where they can get some pie!
Anything else you would like our readers to know?
Not only do we offer delectable pies, we have cookies as well. We offer, persimmon cookies when they are in season; cowboy cookies that consist of oats, peanut butter, coconut flakes, and chocolate chips; we also have walnut chocolate chip cookies and the everyday chocolate chip cookie.
