Father-daughter duo Taylor Abels Rodriguez and Joel Abels have turned a passion for vintage and vintage-inspired goods into the Fresno High neighborhood’s latest family-owned business with the official opening of their store, This & That, today on Echo Ave. Located across from Fresno High, it’s tucked cozily between Moto Deli and Kuppa Joy Coffee.

This & That is a passion project that came together in just one month from lease signing to opening, but you wouldn’t know it stepping inside! The entire store is carefully curated and artfully designed, divided into cozy sections with gorgeous goods on every surface. When you first enter, you’ll see garden goods on your left and right: planters, garden décor, a pretty patio table, indoor-outdoor pillows and cushions, vintage windowpanes, wreaths, and weathered watering cans.

As you proceed further into the store, a center island displays jarred, scented candles, matchbooks, stationery, and fun fruit- and veggie-shaped tapered and round candles. There are decorations and cards for Thanksgiving made by artists, and napkins and cards for Christmas, too. (As an ambivert who wavers between wanting to be super social and having everyone over, and running out of social battery about three hours in, I especially enjoyed the funny cocktail napkins that said, “ho ho hope you don’t stay too long.”) The left wall of the room gives living room vibes and displays glassware, albums, gorgeous wood furniture, and charming holiday decorations.

The right wall of the store has display cabinets filled with gorgeous ceramics, brass, and Fiesta ware of many colors. A rectangular table sits in the back of the store, and Taylor shared that it will soon be used to host small hands-on classes like succulent planting or paint nights. Also at the back of the store is a step-up stage with a gallery wall background filled with vintage framed portraits and lit with theatrical lighting. This & That plans to host performances and community events there in the very near future, and they have already signed up to be a Rogue music festival venue.

This & That is filled with treasures from wall to wall, and the inventory will change constantly as new items come in and found treasures are sold. Taylor and her father, Joel, are warm and kind souls who make you feel welcome just watching them invite you to their shop on social media.

It’s perfect timing that the shop is opening just in time for the holiday shopping season, as it would be a great place to find unique and special gifts. This & That officially opened for business on November 4th and will be open Wednesday through Saturday from 11am to 7pm and Sundays from 12pm to 5pm. Definitely keep an eye on their social media for updates on special events and potential extended hours during the holiday season, as they plan to post often. Whether you’re hunting for a one-of-a-kind holiday gift or just want to wander through a space full of charm, This & That is well worth a visit.
