Fresno’s pastry scene just got a new addition. Paris Baguette, an international bakery café chain with more than 50 locations in California, just opened its first Fresno store in the Villagio Shopping Center at Blackstone and Nees right across from River Park. And while yes, it’s a chain, this one feels anything but cookie-cutter.
The vibe? Cozy yet clean and polished, with subway tile, checkered floors, and rich midnight blue accents that feel both timeless and fresh. There’s limited but charming outdoor seating with café chairs if you want to get some sunshine while you sip your coffee.
Inside, it’s bright and organized, with two rows of glass pastry cases filled with golden croissants, mochi donuts, fresh fruit tarts, and savory baked goods. Everything is self-serve using provided tongs and trays, so it’s quick to grab and go — but still feels clean and makes for a pleasant experience.
I tried the raspberry almond croissant, which was crispy and flaky outside with a super bright, lemony raspberry and almond paste filling. I enjoyed it with a creamy caramel latte — frothy and comforting. My coworkers had a coffee cronut filled with luscious coffee cream, a fruit-topped pastry bite, and a piping-hot hot chocolate. One thoughtful moment that really stood out: when my coworker ordered, the barista asked how to spell her name, saying, “It’s important to me to get people’s names right — I want folks to feel seen and appreciated.” (Struck me as a bit more sincere than a certain other chain not to be named that’s required to write some sort of phrase on its cups nowadays, but I digress.)
One thing that really impressed all of us: allergens and ingredients are clearly labeled for every item. That kind of transparency is rare and such a gift for anyone with food allergies or sensitivities.
While most folks come for the sweets, don’t sleep on the savory offerings — there are ham and cheese croissants, baguette sandwiches, and egg-based pastries perfect for breakfast or lunch. And if you’re celebrating something (or just love beautiful desserts), they also offer full-sized cakes in a variety of flavors like fresh cream strawberry and chocolate ganache.
They serve LaVazza coffee (a rare find in town), and the full café menu means it’s also a great option for those who want a quiet spot to work or meet up with a friend. Bonus: They’re open daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. — early enough for your morning coffee run, and late enough to satisfy your 8 p.m. sweet treat cravings.
With a second location planned for Marketplace at El Paseo in northwest Fresno later this year, Paris Baguette is officially on Fresno’s food map — and it’s definitely worth a visit.
