What Do the Clovis Rodeo, Grey’s Anatomy & Beverly Hills, 90210 All Have in Common?

Growing up in Clovis, and being part of the Clovis High Band & Colorguard, it’s ingrained in my subconscious that the last weekend of April is dedicated to Clovis Rodeo activities. The sad truth though is, I’m not really a rodeo fan. Or a fan of outdoor activities. Or a fan of doing stuff at all, really.

What I am is a fan of television. So when I spotted this ABC30 headline: “‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Hosts Charity Roping Contest at Clovis Rodeo,” I had to click through. I expected to see the name of someone who played a random patient on the show once, but when I found out who hosted the event, I instantly made my Donna Meagle/Tom Haverford surprise face:

Clovis Rodeo Grey's Anatomy

Because it was James Pickens, Jr., aka Chief Richard Webber!

Yeah, I know he’s no longer chief of Seattle Grace/Mercy West/Sloan/Grey/whatevs hospital, but I don’t care — he’ll always be Chief Webber to me.

Actually, scratch that. He’ll always be Henry, Brandon’s soap opera-watching boss at the Beverly Hills Beach Club on “Beverly Hills, 90210” to me.

No. Wait. He’ll always be Chuck, Dan Conner’s poker buddy on “Roseanne.”

Doesn’t matter. This guy is legit, and he was in Clovis yesterday to host the 8th Annual James Pickens Jr. Foundation Charity Open Roping. A third of all proceeds from that event went to the James Pickens Jr Foundation and the Clovis Rodeo Foundation, which is cool and charitable and totally something Chief Webber would do.

Clovis Rodeo Grey's Anatomy
Hi, I’m Chief Webber and I’m the best character on Grey’s Anatomy 12 years running.

103rd Clovis Rodeo

It may be too late to attend the roping (sorry, I missed this story before it happened), but you can still get out there and enjoy the 103rd Clovis Rodeo this weekend. The rodeo takes place Thursday through Sunday. Events include:

Thursday:
• PBR Roping
• Joe Nichols concert

Friday:
• Rodeo Performance
• Eli Young Band Concert

Saturday:
• 103rd Rodeo Parade
• Rodeo Performance
• Rodeo After-Party
• Clovis Rodeo Dance

Sunday:
• Rodeo Performance

All the information you need, including where to get tickets, can be found here. Have a good time! I’ll be right here watching Brandon try to convince Henry to hire him as a lifeguard even though he’s like, 5’6″ and 110 pounds (not including hair).

Head YES man at FresYes.com
I grew up in Fresno. Relaxed in its calm breezes, listened with my dad to the crack of the bat at little league baseball games when I was a kid and now take my son to do the same at minor league games. I broadened my mind at its schools (I went to high school right here at San Joaquin Memorial, and to college at Fresno State!) I love that if I drive for two hours in one direction, I can be in the mountains. For two hours in another, luxuriating on a California beach. I can enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere of San Francisco or Los Angeles, but still be able to come home to relaxation, calm, and quiet.

I love where I live, and I also love what I do. I'm lucky to be able to work in a profession in which I get to build relationships; one that has me meeting new people each and every day and helping them to build new lives in my beloved city. I'm lucky enough to work in a profession in which I can marry cutting-edge technologies and marketing techniques to good, old-fashioned, nose-to-the-grindstone work. I am lucky enough to work in a profession that allows me to work as an advocate for my clients; to use every tool at my disposal to get a job done well for them, and with as little stress and expense as possible.

I love my city. I love my job. One inspires my excellence for the other.

Fresno? I say FresYES

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
