5 Ways to Meet New People in 2017

If you’re like me, the start of a new year forces you to reflect on your life. Often times, we think about the things that we aren’t happy with. The stuff that keeps us from feeling fulfilled.

I’m at a point in my life where I would like to meet new people. It’s not easy to make new friends, especially in your 30s.

In your 20s you make friends in college, or you make them working. It’s easier to meet people and make time for them before life gets complicated with responsibilities.

One of my goals for 2017 is to put myself out there and make at least one new friend. I’ve been doing some research online and have put together some ideas on how to meet new people whether you’re new to town or have been here your whole life.

1. Join an Activity Club

If you have children that are in school, a great way to meet other people is through your kids. Consider joining the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) or some other type of parent club.

Like to read? Book stores like A Book Barn in Old Town Clovis offer book clubs. You can also find local book clubs through Meetup.com.

For fun or for competition, a bowling league is a great way to meet people in a relaxed environment. AMF Sierra Lanes in Fresno, for example, has leagues you can join.

2. Volunteer or Join a Service Club

The organization HandsOn Central California can help connect you with nonprofit organizations, schools, and other groups that are looking for volunteers.

Service clubs like Rotary International and Lions International have local chapters and give back to the community in a variety of ways.

3. Find a Business Association

Groups like the Fresno Chamber of Commerce offer monthly mixers and get-together opportunities for employees and business owners.

Fresno’s Leading Young Professionals (FLYP) is a grass roots nonprofit organization that serves young professionals. They offer networking opportunities.

4. Take a Class

Taking on a hobby can open your chances to making new friends. Fresno and Clovis Unified offer community education classes through their adult schools. Everything from fitness classes to arts and crafts to cooking courses are offered. Here’s a list of upcoming Fresno and Clovis classes.

5. Visit a Dog Park

If you have a dog, consider taking him or her to a dog park. It’s a good way to start up a conversation with a fellow pet lover.

Fresno’s Woodward Park has a pretty popular dog park. I know a few people who were new to town who met there and became friends.

Basically when it comes to meeting new people, you just have to change up your routine. It can be as simple as trying out a new gym or frequenting a different coffee shop or restaurant.

I think I’ve put together some good tips. I just hope I take my own advice and try them out!

Happy New Year! I hope 2017 brings you good health and happiness.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
