One of my favorite things happened today: I got to enjoy lunch at a brand-new Fresno restaurant! Smash Bros Bistro is a new smash burger restaurant that features staple single and double smash burgers on their menu. They also offer a variety of other delicious items, including a fried chicken sandwich, bucatini in tomato sauce with basil oil, fried Brussels sprouts smothered in a tasty sauce and topped with crushed peanuts, and fries – both standard and truffle parmesan.
Smash Bros also offers two meal-sized salads, a wedge and a Caesar with buttery croutons, as well as freshly baked daily cakes. Is your mouth watering yet? Just in case you’re not already drooling on your keyboard or phone screen, I must also share that they serve Fresno State ice cream both by the scoop and in sundaes. While I didn’t get a chance to enjoy their breakfast menu, they do offer one on Sunday mornings that includes pancakes, a breakfast smash burger, Greek yogurt parfaits, and a good old-fashioned breakfast with eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast. Vegetarians can also enjoy Beyond Burger patties at Smash Bros.
I visited for lunch on a Wednesday with my husband and parents, arriving early before the lunch rush. There is counter seating on the left when you enter, as well as a narrow bar with stools to your right. Just past the main counter is the register where you order your meal, and beyond the register are dining tables and chairs that seat parties of two or four. At the time we arrived (just after 11:15), we had our pick of seating, but it definitely got busier just after 12. So, if you’re planning a workday lunch, try to go early.
My husband and I shared a double smash burger, which was served with cheese, shaved onions, pickles, and bistro sauce. The patties were sizeable. We also tried the truffle parmesan fries, which were perfectly salted with a great truffle flavor that wasn’t overpowering. I’m a big fan of wedge salads (thanks to Heirloom for getting me hooked – I didn’t even know I liked bleu cheese before I tried their wedge salad!). This one was served with bacon, plenty of bleu cheese, and pickled onions. It was very cold and tasty, just how I like a wedge salad.
The service was great – our food was brought to our table with attention to providing extra napkins, clearing used dishes for space, and offering boxes for extra food. The portions were generous, and the flavor was on point. The atmosphere was comfortable, inviting, and warmly friendly (not temperature-wise), with French-bistro/café-inspired décor.
Smash Bros Bistro is located in a small strip mall by 7-11 on the northeast corner of Bullard and Fresno Street near 41 and numerous doctors’ offices. I suspect it will become a very popular lunch spot for the many folks working in nearby offices. If you’d like to try their tasty food but are in a rush, they happily take phone orders too.
Smash Bros is open from 9 am to 8 pm on weekdays (Tuesday through Friday) and 11 am to 7 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. They are closed on Mondays. Give them a try for lunch, dinner, or Sunday breakfast. I think you’ll be very glad you did!
