Summer is a time for making the most of the long days. It’s a time to make memories with those you love spending time with. Making a trip as a family for dessert is one thing I like to do during the hot summer nights. Though ice cream is always a hit – this week, I wanted to take my favorite guys to try a new place I’d heard about from a friend early this spring – Vampire Penguin.

Vampire Penguin Storefront in NE Fresno

Vampire Penguin

The Fresno location is located on the southeast corner of Champlain and Perrin in northeast Fresno. They serve shaved snow desserts that feature light and fluffy “snow” mixed with syrups, fruit, and other sweet toppings. They offer both non-dairy and dairy desserts and they also have sugar-free and low sugar options. Though this is a national chain, the Piazza del Fiore shopping center location is the first in the Fresno area.

In addition to shaved snow, they also offers sweet crepes and a wide variety of treats from the Jelly Belly candy line. Their dessert makers are called “Snow Slayers” and the cute mascot is even featured in children’s books available for purchase in store.

What We Got

On my family’s visit, we each got a different shaved snow dessert to try. My husband got the Piña Colada which was made with pineapple and coconut snow, topped with coconut flakes, condensed milk, coconut cream, mango boba, pineapple pieces, and topped with whipped cream and two cherries.

The Piña Colada

My son ordered the Neapolitan, which was a hit! It’s the classic Neapolitan style with crushed graham crackers.

I ordered the Mexican Candy, made with mango snow, Chamoy, caramel, Tajin, and a side of chili and mango boba. Though we all thoroughly enjoyed our desserts, the consensus was that my selection was everyone’s favorite.

The Mexican Candy

The texture of the snow is light and fluffy, yet creamier and more dense than typical shaved ice. It doesn’t melt as quickly as you might expect either. It’s a very enjoyable textural and taste experience.

The shaved snow desserts come in two sizes, regular and large. (I thought regular was still quite generous, but my guys both wished they had ordered larges, mainly because they just enjoyed their desserts so much.)

Hours of Operation

If you’re looking for something refreshing to enjoy on a warm, summer night in Fresno – I highly recommend checking it out! They’re open from 1-9pm weekdays, 12-10pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and 12-8pm on Sundays.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
