Fresno Native Getting National Attention for New Parenting Book

Growing up in Fresno has had a huge impact on how author Jill Simonian raises her two daughters in posh Los Angeles.

“I raise my kids in a very down-to-earth ‘Fresno’ way,” Simonian says. “I tell them to go outside and play a lot. We eat popsicles sitting in the front yard on the grass. Things like that.”

After graduating from Sanger High, Simonian moved to Los Angeles for college. She graduated from UCLA and began working hard to make it in the entertainment industry.

She’s worked many celebrity-filled events, even asking stars questions on the Academy Awards red carpet. Past hosting gigs have included the Travel Channel, ReelzChannel, KTLA-TV Los Angeles, HLN, and Hallmark Channel.

Currently, Simonian is the creator of TheFABMOM.com and works as the Parenting Lifestyle Expert for CBS Los Angeles news.

Her debut book, The FAB Mom’s Guide: How to Get Over the Bump & Bounce Back Fast After Baby, was released earlier this month and is getting national attention. It was just featured in US Weekly.

The book is a practical and motivating guide with fun celebrity stories and expert lifestyle tips to boost any first-time mom’s mind, body, and spirit.

Simonian was very career-focused when she had her first child in 2010. She admits that adjusting to motherhood had challenges.

“When I was expecting my first daughter, I remember my mom telling me, ‘You’ll get back to you in a few months,’ so I made it a point to try just as an experiment,” Simonian says. “I started setting daily goals for myself to feel more confident and to organize my life and family. I knew my choices weren’t a fluke after I did the same things with my second daughter born a year and half later.”

The girls are now five and six.

Simonian says she is excited about adding “author” to her list of career highlights. The book is full of her personal tales, including unexpected lessons she learned from celebrities like Eva Mendes, Matt Damon, and Russell Brand.

Author Samantha Ettus, pediatrician Dr. Tanya Altmann, family food guru Catherine McCord, TV personalities Ali Landry and Debbie Matenopoulos also contribute tips and advice in the book.

“A baby will turn your lifestyle upside-down for a bit, but you have the power to take control, turn it right side up and become more confident and resilient after becoming a parent,” Simonian says. “You just have to make the choice to do it.”
