Fresno has just welcomed a new restaurant to our ever-growing and culturally-rich scene – Pupuseria Los Guanaquitos. The restaurant is located on the southeast corner of Ashlan and Fresno Street near Fashion Fair Mall at 2614 East Ashlan Fresno, Ca.

Zoom in for the menu!

Pupusas originated in El Salvador, and are made from corn meal! Think of a corn tortilla, but these are thicker and filled with ingredients. Some are filled with things like meat, cheese, vegetables, or beans inside. They then are cooked on a plancha (a hot, flat surface similar to a griddle). Pupusas are browned with their ingredients already inside and are usually served with a flavorful slaw called curtido. This includes pickled onions, cabbage, jalapeños, and carrots.

Pupuseria Los Guanaquitos’ menu features both Salvadorian and Mexican specialties. All items are handmade to order and the quantity of food is plentiful.

Some of the Salvadorian offerings include: pupusas, pastelitos, yuca fries, caramelized bananas with cajeta and banana empanadas coated in sugar. Mexican menu offerings include tacos, burritos, sopes, quesabirria tacos, gorditas, mulitas, huaraches, and quesadillas.

Pupuseria Los Guanaquitos is happy to accommodate your little ones with their kids’ menu featuring quesadillas, chicken nuggets, and fries.

Our family tried a variety of items from the menu on our recent visit. The things we tried are including the revuelta, cheese and jalapeño pupusas, yuca fries, quesabirria tacos, and banana empanadas. My personal favorites were the cheese and jalapeño pupusas and the yuca fries. If yuca is new to you, the flavor is mild, and the texture is similar to that of a potato. This dish is sliced and fried with a flavorful sauce on the side for dipping, sounds yummy to us!

The restaurant is open Tuesday – Sunday from 9 am – 9 pm. They offer both dine in with counter ordering and take out service. If you’ve not had the opportunity to try pupusas, I highly recommend stopping by Pupuseria Los Guanaquitos as soon as you can!

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
