2016 Summer Reading Programs

As we say farewell to the school year, summer vacation is officially upon Fresnans and all students from nearby areas. Parents and caretakers, if you’re looking for ways to keep kids sharp and engaged in reading this summer, the Fresno County Library really has you covered this year! Not only will the library’s summer programs help to motivate reading during the hot summer days, but they will also entertain with character visits, magic shows, animal displays, folk dancing, Zumba and more!

ValleyPBS and the Fresno County Library will partner to bring back “Dog Days of Summer” every Wednesday. These mid-morning events bring Clifford, the Big Red Dog to libraries across the County for a special reading time for little ones, as well as a meet and greet and photo opportunity Plus, each child who comes to hear the story and meet Clifford will receive a free book to take home, too! The schedule this year will be as follows:

In addition to Clifford’s visits, the library has lined up a whole crew of local all-stars to bring kids and families some of the most exciting and enjoyable entertainment around this summer, and all for FREE! During the month of June, library guests can enjoy magic shows by magician Tim Mannix, Wild Child bubbles and science adventures, close encounters with snakes, lizards and other creatures with E & M’s Reptile Family, the music and dances of Oklin Bloodworth and even learn folk dancing with Evo Bluestein. Evo Bluestein is well-known around town, as their visits to Fresno Unified Elementary campuses are a huge hit!

In July, The Hoots music and movement group will join the summer library fun, as will Zumba instructor Josie, who will offer fast-paced dance fitness classes for children and families. In addition, several library branches will be offering a free lunch and activity for children ages 1-18. (Click the link for locations and additional information).

As you can see, Fresno County Libraries really go all out to make summer spectacular for Valley kids and families – so please, show up and make it known how much we appreciate all the effort it takes to put on all of these fantastic programs for youth. I know our hard working librarians will be overjoyed to see large numbers of happy children participating and making all of their setup efforts well worth-while.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
