As you might have figured out, we love our pets. With our 2nd annual Pet Calendar 2024 contest starting in Just a few weeks, to our weekly FresYes Totally Adoptable Pet of the Week!“, we’re all afloof in the fluuff.

When we found out that one of our own staff members was volunteering time at a local rescue, we just had to get an interview! What makes it sweeter is that it specifically serves the needs of a widely misunderstood breed. The first dog you might think of is of course the Pit Bull, or American Pit Bull Terrier, but there’s also English Bulldogs, Bull Mastiffs, and Bull Terriers, and don’t forget about the Boxers, Boston Terriers, and American Staffordshire Terriers. These are all “Bullys”. Thank you Nate for your volunteering and turning us on to this non profit!

Who are you, where did you come from, and what do you do?

My name is Bridgette Boothe. I am Director, President for Fresno Bully Rescue. Our Mission is to provide a loving, temporary home while we look for forever homes for the dogs in our care. In addition, FBR is committed to promoting responsible ownership of bully breeds, fighting against breed discrimination, spaying and neutering pets, reporting dog fighting, and demonstrating to the community that bully breeds are loyal, loving family companions.

Tell us a little about the organization

Fresno Bully Rescue was founded in 2008, in response to the housing market crash that occurred during that time, An overwhelming amount of dogs were being surrendered to shelters because people were loosing their homes. Bully breeds are the first to be euthanized if no one adopts or rescues them. Since over 1 million “pit bulls” are euthanized in the United States yearly, the service provided by FBR is critical for the Central Valley which has one of the highest rates of euthanization in the whole of California.

Since its founding in May 1, 2008, FBR has rescued over 3,000 dogs. At our shelter facility we house over 40 resident dogs at all times. Some rescued from the community, from abusive homes and county shelters where they were designated to be euthanized.

What do you do that makes you stand out?

Fresno Bully Rescue is the only rescue of its’ kind in California. We are the only breed-specific, no-kill rescue with a shelter facility that is open to the public. Because we are so unique, we get requests from the entire state and surrounding states for rescuing dogs.

We also adopt out to the entire state and surrounding states. On average, we receive several hundred requests for rescue each week. Because we are a no-kill rescue, we can only rescue a dog once one gets adopted. This is why adopting a dog saves TWO lives!

What is it that most people DON’T know about your organization?

Fresno Bully Rescue is always looking for more people in the community willing to help. FBR hosts monthly volunteer orientations at our facility, welcoming many new faces ready to help make a difference in their community and in the lives of homeless animals. Fresno Bully Rescue strives to be involved with our community and regularly attends local community and other organizational events. Fresno Bully Rescue participates in the Clovis Big Hat Days, Clovis Fest, Walk Like MADD Walkathon, Super Adoption at Fresno State, Pet Expos all over California.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
