What’s Hot & Happening November 24 – 26

By FresYes Writing Team

Hey, it’s BLACK FRIDAY today! We have all the flat screen TVs we need, do you remember when that was thing? What’s the big items everyone is after this year? What are you looking for? Do you even do the Black Friday thing?

Did you know that the exact origin of the term “Black Friday” is somewhat disputed, but the most widely accepted explanation traces it back to the world of accounting. In traditional accounting practices, red ink was used to denote losses, while black ink represented profits. As the story goes, retailers would operate at a loss throughout the year, but the day after Thanksgiving, with the influx of holiday shoppers and their spending sprees, they would finally turn a profit, going from “in the red” to “in the black.”

Tomorrow is Small Business Saturday! and if you know anything about us – we’re all about the locally owned small business. Pretty much every one of our FresYes Interviews is of a locally owned small business.

What locally owned small business should we interview next?

FRIDAY:

We hope that your Friendsgiving and your Thanksgiving both were successful and you have plenty of leftovers in the fridge. We’re not a recipe blog but one of our very favorites for today is to go out and find the best, softest, loaf of thick sliced whole wheat your money can buy. We like a seeded crust and more specifically made with sesame seeds.

The BEST Post Thanksgiving Turkey Sandwich

The basics…

  • Thin Sliced Turkey Breast

  • Softened Cream Cheese

  • Cranberry Sauce

  • That Seeded Bread you just picked up

Next, you can add Avocado, Bacon, Sprouts, Cheese and / or Lettuce as you desire. We’re not going to tell you how to build a sandwich – we all know how. But there’s just something to the combination of the sweetness of cream cheese against the tartness of the cranberries that sets the turkey off. Can you tell? We LOVE this sandwich!

BONUS PROTIP: We have also added in a healthy warm scoop of Grandma’s Cornbread Stuffing and piping hot Gravy for the ultimate sandwich experience! Unbelievable!

Let us know where you find that perfect loaf – maybe we’ll interview them next!

SATURDAY:

It’s Small Business Saturday and you have the civic duty to get out there and give that locally owned store a try. We mentioned that we’ve done quite a few interviews of locally owned businesses but we would be remiss if we did not also point out that Natali has been writing and featuring incredible locally owned places to shop and eat for a very long time. How long you ask? Well, here’s just 414 articles she’s written – and like we said, almost all are locally owned small businesses!

Check out a few of her posts, make a plan and go out and shop locally owned. Meet the owners and find out for yourself why they do what they do. Oh, and don’t forget to thank Natali for the ideas! She rocks!

SUNDAY:

For some people, today is the day the Christmas Tree goes up and the decorating begins. Do you go for the traditional cutting of your own tree from a tree farm? Maybe buy a fresh cut one from a local lot? Or have you gone for the artificial tree? Who has the best deal on trees? We want to know.

We might have to do a poll about that. HINT: Yes, we most definitely will do a poll on that!

FRIDAY:

SATURDAY:

Head YES man at FresYes.com
I grew up in Fresno. Relaxed in its calm breezes, listened with my dad to the crack of the bat at little league baseball games when I was a kid and now take my son to do the same at minor league games. I broadened my mind at its schools (I went to high school right here at San Joaquin Memorial, and to college at Fresno State!) I love that if I drive for two hours in one direction, I can be in the mountains. For two hours in another, luxuriating on a California beach. I can enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere of San Francisco or Los Angeles, but still be able to come home to relaxation, calm, and quiet.

I love where I live, and I also love what I do. I'm lucky to be able to work in a profession in which I get to build relationships; one that has me meeting new people each and every day and helping them to build new lives in my beloved city. I'm lucky enough to work in a profession in which I can marry cutting-edge technologies and marketing techniques to good, old-fashioned, nose-to-the-grindstone work. I am lucky enough to work in a profession that allows me to work as an advocate for my clients; to use every tool at my disposal to get a job done well for them, and with as little stress and expense as possible.

I love my city. I love my job. One inspires my excellence for the other.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
