As a former Central Grizzly, it had admittedly been a while since I last visited my alma mater. So when my son’s high school baseball team had a game at Central East this week, I was excited to return to campus and see all that had changed. (They actually have a baseball stadium now—something we didn’t have when I was a student there!) I was also looking forward to finding a local restaurant nearby to grab a good meal from after the game.
Not only did we find a fantastic dinner, but we also stumbled upon some of the warmest, most welcoming customer service we’ve experienced in a long time. FresYes readers, if you haven’t yet discovered Weekend Dreams Burgers & Grill, allow me to introduce you!
Where to Find This Gem
Weekend Dreams is a small but mighty restaurant packing big flavor. It’s located on the northwest corner of Ashlan and Blythe in northwest Fresno, just west of Highway 99.
The moment we walked in, we were greeted by the owner, Jay, who welcomed us as if we were guests in his home. He seemed genuinely happy we were there, setting the tone for a great experience.

The Food: Big Portions, Big Flavor
Before visiting, I had scoped out Weekend Dreams on Yelp and Google, where it boasts stellar reviews—especially for its burgers. Naturally, I had to order one.
My go-to burger is a BBQ bacon burger, and though I didn’t see it on the menu, I asked about it. Jay immediately responded, “Oh yeah, we can do that!” He made sure to confirm exactly how I wanted it, including whether I preferred grilled or raw onions. (Grilled onions all the way!)
I had also read rave reviews about the fries, so I opted for a combo meal to try them out. My husband, on the other hand, asked about the most popular menu items and landed on the pastrami burger—one of their best-sellers. If you’re curious, the top customer favorites include:
- The double burger
- The pastrami burger
- The patty melt
- The Philly cheesesteak-style sandwiches (especially the Pepper Boom)
- The BBQ tri-tip sandwich
A Little Something for Everyone
My parents joined us for dinner, too. My dad went with a classic burger, while my mom was looking for something lighter and chose the broccoli beef over rice.
We decided to dine in (because who doesn’t love crispy, fresh-out-of-the-fryer fries?), and the space was inviting with several booths and tables. Even though it was just a random Wednesday evening and almost too early for dinner, there were already other families happily dining—always a good sign. One review I had seen online stood out to me: “I’m from Texas, but if I lived in Fresno, this would absolutely be a regular stop for me.” Judging by the atmosphere, I got the feeling that many of the guests were loyal, repeat customers.
A Meal Worth Returning For
Jay personally brought our drinks and meals to the table, and everything looked amazing.
The burgers were huge—I could only eat half (which meant an exciting work lunch the next day!). The fries were those perfectly battered, seasoned, crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside kind that everyone secretly hopes to be served.

The burgers themselves? Fresh, hand-packed, juicy, and well-seasoned—not the typical frozen patties you get at some places. My mom also raved about the tenderness of the beef in her dish, and she easily had enough for two meals.

For four hearty meals, with leftovers to spare, our total was $55—which, by today’s standards, felt very reasonable given the portion sizes, quality, and bold flavors.

A Place That Feels Like Home
After posting a photo of my burger on Instagram, a longtime friend replied, saying she and her husband love Weekend Dreams and that Jay always goes the extra mile for his customers. She even shared that Jay prepares a pork chop for her husband—on nights pork chops aren’t even on the menu! Now that’s next-level hospitality.
If you’re looking for a restaurant where the owner genuinely takes pride in their food, makes common menu items uncommonly delicious, appreciates their customers, and makes you feel welcomed and well cared for from the moment you walk in, you’ve got to check out Weekend Dreams Burgers & Grill.
