Audra McDonald in NBC’s The Sound of Music Live
Audra McDonald in NBC’s The Sound of Music Live

During this past holiday season I picked up some new favorite things to do and places to visit and I can’t wait to share them all with you. First thought, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention this “Fresyes” moment from December.
Did you happen to watch and listen to Audra McDonald in NBC’s The Sound of Music Live?! Neither my daughter nor I have ever seen the original musical so we took it upon ourselves to make sure we watched this live remake. I’m sure Emma mostly wanted to see it because it starred Carrie Underwood. For me, I just figured it would be good father-daughter time. We both made it through the entire program without distraction (a true sign my child is into something) and really enjoyed it. I was especially surprised and happy to see Audra sing and act so beautifully. You may not be aware but Mrs. McDonald was raised right here in Fresno, California. She was the elder of two daughters and is a graduate of Roosevelt High School. She got her start in acting with Dan Pessano and Good Company Players.
I will be sharing my favorite things mixed in with more real estate news, stats, and happenings in your favorite neighborhood this year and to get us started let me suggest to you, Peeve’s Public House and Local Market. Peeves
Peeve’s Public House and Local Market is a hyper-local space for Fresnans to experience the Central Valley’s best, casual pub food and drink. Very unique in its offerings of live music, movie nights, guest chefs, and daily changing menu. That’s right, daily… every meal is different. While most restaurants offer a full menu that remains the same, their entrées, salads, sandwiches, and most everything else change daily to accommodate the fresh ingredients that cycle through our local farmer’s markets. They are located at 1243 Fulton Mall, which is easily accessed via 41 or 99. Parking on Van Ness/ Tuolumne at CVS is free for the first Hour, after 6pm on weekdays, and anytime on weekends. Merced Garage (Van Ness and Merced streets) is free after 6pm on weekdays and anytime on weekends.
Make this the year that you try something new, instead of meeting at the same old coffee joint, give Peeve’s a try. I did and now it’s one of my new favorite things!

Head YES man at FresYes.com
I grew up in Fresno. Relaxed in its calm breezes, listened with my dad to the crack of the bat at little league baseball games when I was a kid and now take my son to do the same at minor league games. I broadened my mind at its schools (I went to high school right here at San Joaquin Memorial, and to college at Fresno State!) I love that if I drive for two hours in one direction, I can be in the mountains. For two hours in another, luxuriating on a California beach. I can enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere of San Francisco or Los Angeles, but still be able to come home to relaxation, calm, and quiet.

I love where I live, and I also love what I do. I'm lucky to be able to work in a profession in which I get to build relationships; one that has me meeting new people each and every day and helping them to build new lives in my beloved city. I'm lucky enough to work in a profession in which I can marry cutting-edge technologies and marketing techniques to good, old-fashioned, nose-to-the-grindstone work. I am lucky enough to work in a profession that allows me to work as an advocate for my clients; to use every tool at my disposal to get a job done well for them, and with as little stress and expense as possible.

I love my city. I love my job. One inspires my excellence for the other.

Fresno? I say FresYES

I agree. Peeves’ Public House is cool. I’m a jaded L.A. resident who was in downtown Fresno for work, and with a few hours to kill before flying back, I decided to walk around a bit. At first, the sketchiness of Fulton Mall almost caused me to reconsider. Luckily, I stumbled upon Peeves, where the selection of craft brews was awesome and plentiful, the vibe was uber-local and the crowd was very low key hipster-ish. I look forward to sampling the food on my next return.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
