What’s Hot & Happening June 9 – 11

By FresYes Writing Team

It looks yet another fabulous weekend here in Fresno and we can’t wait to get outside! With temps in the mid 80’s it’s the right time too! Remember to savor these days and make the best of them!

It’s a great weekend to get out to some of the many Farmer’s Markets we have around here. Speaking of which, we would love to hear which is your favorite and why.

The FresYes Explorer

Yes, it’s back for another week! Let’s dive in!

Let’s start with Friday night. Get a baby sitter for the kids and head down to Strummers for a little HOBO JOHNSON. Stop off somewhere for some food and a cocktail or two as this is going to get a little weird. Weird but worthwhile – we promise!

About that bite to eat. Did you know we have a whole category devoted to just Patio Dining? You can certainly find a great place to eat. Libelula, Saizon, Eureka! – the list goes on and on! Seriously, check out the Libelula Burger of the Week. The Fajita Burger – Sautéed peppers and onions on 2 angus beef patties smothered in melted ghost pepper cheese, garlic aioli and arugula on a butter toasted bun!

We’ll just let you drool a bit over that.

OK, back to Strummers: If you’ve never seen or heard from this “kid”, his shows are very unique. Part poetry, part hip-hop, part emo-rap, part spoken word. Hobo Johnson is neither a Hobo (although he did live in his car for a while) nor a Johnson (his real name is Frank Lopes).

Here’s a YouTube Video of Hobo on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert Series to give you a taste of what you are in for https://youtu.be/A8a2EosJIbM <= WARNING NSFW!

On Saturday let’s get outside and play with the kids at any one of the local parks. Yes, we have a category for that too! Head on over to https://fresyes.com/parks/.

If you have a pupper there’s a great article on 7 Dog Parks in Fresno – Clovis. If you don’t have a pupper, did you catch our The FresYes Totally Adoptable Pet of the Week! post? Only $10 for Adoption Fees and what a gorgeous doggie! Look deep into Odette’s eyes and tell us she’s not beautiful.

For Saturday Night take the kids to The Historic Crest for a showing of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This is the original Disney Version. Here’s a test for you. If you can name all 7 of the Dwarfs, you and family can get in free! We’ll put the answer below.

Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy, and Dopey(oh and we’re just kidding about the test – everyone gets in free)

If you’re not up for a movie, may we suggest a little Guns & Hoses? No, that’s not an Axl Rose Cover Band – it is actually a battle of two bands, one made up of entirely of active duty and retired Cops battling it out with another band made up entirely of active duty and retired Firefighters! Get the Guns & Hoses now?

We’re just thinking it would be a shame if the Cop Band didn’t play any of the top hits by the Police and likewise if the Firefighter Band didn’t play Burning Down The House, right? Oh and First Responders get in for free! (and you don’t have to name any dwarfs!)

Sunday Morning: As Jim Hopper would say, Mornings are for Coffee and Contemplation and we couldn’t agree more. Where’s the best Coffee? We had a poll and quite a few people agree. See for your self Poll: The Best of Fresno Coffee

After you finish with your contemplation, lets get going. Head down to the Tioga-Sequoia Beer Garden and get in on the Nintendo Themed Pub Quiz!

This quiz will largely focus on games Nintendo published, like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc., but there may be a few questions on other games released for Nintendo systems. Load up on mushrooms and extra lives and be sure to bring your best team of up to six with you. This quiz is free and for all ages!

Wahoo! If you get here at little early before the quiz you’ll also get the chance to meet and take photos with Mario from Super Mario Bros, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm! Don’t miss out on the scavenger hunt for power-up boxes around the Beer Garden, where you can find special discounts and even a Mario figurine. Plus, D&G Hot Dogs will be there from 12-4pm serving up NINTENDOGS! Remember, it’s dangerous to go alone, so bring your friends and family for a fun-filled day of trivia, games, and prizes! Let’s-a go!

Head YES man at FresYes.com
I grew up in Fresno. Relaxed in its calm breezes, listened with my dad to the crack of the bat at little league baseball games when I was a kid and now take my son to do the same at minor league games. I broadened my mind at its schools (I went to high school right here at San Joaquin Memorial, and to college at Fresno State!) I love that if I drive for two hours in one direction, I can be in the mountains. For two hours in another, luxuriating on a California beach. I can enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere of San Francisco or Los Angeles, but still be able to come home to relaxation, calm, and quiet.

I love where I live, and I also love what I do. I'm lucky to be able to work in a profession in which I get to build relationships; one that has me meeting new people each and every day and helping them to build new lives in my beloved city. I'm lucky enough to work in a profession in which I can marry cutting-edge technologies and marketing techniques to good, old-fashioned, nose-to-the-grindstone work. I am lucky enough to work in a profession that allows me to work as an advocate for my clients; to use every tool at my disposal to get a job done well for them, and with as little stress and expense as possible.

I love my city. I love my job. One inspires my excellence for the other.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
