Time to get moving! Here’s your FresYes guide to February races, runs and walks

How’s that New Year’s Resolution to get active going? It’s not too late to get moving!

As always, FresYes is here to inspire you with our monthly rundown of local races. Many of them raise money for awesome causes in our communities, so it’s a win-win (even if you don’t place first!).

Consider signing yourself and your family up for one of these events.

The Jimmy Run 5K and 2-Mile—Woodward Park

When: Saturday, Feb. 3

Cost: $25 for 5K run/walk, 2M run/walk, Children 10 and under are free. Registration deadline is Feb. 1.

This fun run at Woodward Park in Fresno honors the late Jim Harris. The local runner completed 22 marathons and a whole lot of shorter races. Registered runners will receive:

• T-shirt (Availability and size will be on a first come, first serve basis.)
• Beanie 
• Timing chip 
• Bib 
• Kiwanis breakfast after the race

Fruit Tree Run 5K—Madera

When: Saturday, Feb. 3

Cost: $25; or $5 for anyone under the age of 10 or over the age of 60. Registration ends Feb. 2.

Sign-up

Racers will leave this run with their very own fruit tree. This race benefiting the Linkage Foundation, which helps teachers in Madera Unified and is aimed at promoting wellness. Event includes a zumba warmup, and refreshments and snacks will be provided. The course will include paved roads, sidewalks and beautiful views alongside a river.

Hanford Cow Run Half-Marathon and 5K

When: Sunday, Feb. 4

Cost: 5K $45, Half $75 (prices increase Feb. 1)

The 3rd annual Hanford Cow Run takes you down the flat rural roads of Kings County and benefits Valley Children’s Hospital. This race is excellent for beginners and experienced runners nabbing a personal best. You’ll run past plenty of dairies, so be sure to wave to the cows!

Super Bowl Sprint 5K and 2-Mile—Visalia

When: Sunday, Feb. 4

Cost: $25. Registration ends Feb. 2.

You won’t feel bad about overindulging at your Super Bowl Party if you start your morning with this race in Tulare County. One racer will win a brand-new TV! What’s even better than a TV is that this race benefits the Creative Center Foundation, which helps disabled adults through the arts.

Fresno Valentine Run 5K and 2-mile runs—Woodward Park

When: Sunday, Feb. 11

Cost: Individuals, $30. Couples, $50. Kids 17 and under, $15 (prices increase Feb. 1).

Grab your love and spend Valentine’s Day racing through Woodward Park. There’s a costume contest and a balloon artist for the kids. Rosa Brothers Chocolate Milk will be available along with mimosas for adults.

Sunrise Rotary Chocolate Run 10-mile and 5-mile runs, and 2-mile walk/run—Woodward Park

When: Saturday, Feb. 18

Cost: 10-mile run is $40. 2- and 5-mile runs/walk are $30. Kids race for 9 and under is $10. Prices increase Feb. 16.

This race is for the chocoholic! After you race through Woodward Park, indulge in a large selection of chocolates and chocolate drinks.

Support Blue Fresno 2-Mile and 10K—Woodward Park

When: Saturday, Feb. 24

Cost: $40 (Prices increase Feb. 1).

It’s your chance to show support for the Fresno Police Department while racing through Woodward Park. This race features a custom badge medallion for all finishers, along with Krispy Kreme Donuts and Dutch Bros Coffee. 10K is a timed event; 2-mile is not timed.

Other amenities include:

  • Free park entrance day of event
  • Long-sleeve eventshirt
  • Custom badge medallion to all finishers

Reedley “College to Parkway” 5K and 10K Runs

When: Saturday, Feb. 24

Cost: $20. Kids 12 and under is $10. (Prices increase Feb. 9)

Sign-up

This race starts and ends at the Reedley College track. You’ll run along the Kings River. Racers receive a Dri-fit t-shirt, baseball cap, and goodie bag.

End of the Trail Half-Marathon and 10K run/walk—Visalia

When: Saturday, Feb. 24

Cost: Half-marathon $65. 10K is $45. (Prices increase Feb. 1)

Sign-up

This flat course race starts in downtown Visalia and benefits local high school running programs. After you cross the finish line, you’ll receive a medal and hot breakfast.
