But you’ll want to!
Five & Two Jewelry
Recently, I was searching for a specific jewelry item (a pendant-type necklace that was feminine but also had a snake design incorporated in it), and I came across a perfect charm and fell in love with it – I ordered, received it in the mail, and have been wearing it nearly every day since. (Did you know snakes are a symbol of health and new life? They’re also symbolic of Taylor Swift’s Reputation album, which happens to be my favorite of hers, but… I digress. ????)
Anyway, the pendant is stunning and of great quality – imagine my surprise when I post a photo of it on Instagram, tagging the company, and then realize the company was a woman-owned small business based in Fresno! This experience has since led to several purchases (and DMS) with Five and Two Jewelry and I can honestly say I am in love with their pieces, selection and quality – especially for their very reasonable prices. Fellow jewelry fans (especially if you like delicate, feminine and slightly edgier styles) I highly recommend giving Five and Two a follow!

Central Valley Spice Co
Next up, as someone who enjoys cooking, trying new recipes from a variety of cuisines, and incorporating locally sourced ingredients – I must ask you, did you know we have a local spice purveyor? It’s true! We do! Central Valley Spice Co is available to shop via appointment or can be found at farmer’s markets or other events around town. (Follow them on Instagram for event updates.) While the prices are a bit higher than what you may find at the grocery store, the difference is in the freshness. Central Valley Spice Co’s owner Shant grinds the spices fresh, so while what you can buy at a national chain may have been sitting in a bottle on a shelf for months, buying from Central Valley Spice guarantees you the most flavor for your favorite foods.
Hello Eggrolls
Ok, if this talk of spices and fresh-tasting food got your mouth watering, you’re really going to love this next local biz! Check out Hello Eggrolls – a small, home-based fry-to-order business run by a grandmother and granddaughter duo, whipping up batches of the crispiest, tastiest egg rolls you’ll find. They offer a variety of flavors (beef, southwest chicken, avocado, veggies) and also offer special limited time menu options. You can order via Instagram DM, pay via Venmo then drive up to pick up (curbside near Shields and Maroa), or you can order on their website. Delivery is also available for a fee of $15.
Proj Ink
Modern tattoo artistry is seeing a big uptick in popularity amongst women or those looking to get very delicate line work. Proj Ink is a fine-line custom and flash woman-owned tattoo studio focused exclusively on fine line and tiny, delicate tattoos. It’s a great place for friends or family members who are interested in matching tattoos, and also for those looking to get ink in places some artists are less willing to tattoo (hands and fingers, due to the potential for faster fading in those areas). You can book an appointment or check out Proj Ink’s portfolio of work here.
Scoop Doggy Doo
Do you have multiple dogs, and limited time? Me too. Last year, I hired Scoop Doggy Doo to help me with the task I least wanted to “doo” in the backyard, after adopting a very large dog the prior year. At first, it felt very “first world” of me to spend money in this manner – but honestly, it is some of the best money spent now that I’ve had the service for 6 months. Scoop Dog comes to our home once a week, and picks up all of the “gifts” our furry friends leave for us, ties everything up neatly, tosses it in our trash on the way out, and wins the favor of all three of our dogs by bringing treats. For our three dogs, it’s just $50 for weekly service all month long. I can’t recommend this valuable service more highly!
Ok readers, I’ve showed you my cards – my favorite five recent local business discoveries – now it’s your turn to share yours! Please leave me your faves in the comments – I can’t wait to try them!
