Friday, June 2, was the first day Fresno State’s Gibson Farm Market started selling corn. As you know, people in these parts go cuckoo for that corn, lining up hours before the market opens to get their hands on it.
So, because I know you’re wondering, how much corn did the market sell on opening day of Corn Season 2017? Short answer: a butt load.
Specifically, 38,586 ears were sold, beating the previous high of 36,892 ears sold in 2016. According to Jeremy Lewis, manager of the market, this included 36,134 ears of yellow corn and 2,452 ears of white corn in 77 bins for a record total corn sales of $15,834.
Not to worry if you missed out on buying corn this weekend — it will be available for purchase every day through Labor Day weekend. The store’s summer hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.
