Attention, nature lovers: Starting this month, Clovis Botanical Garden will host Twilight Thursdays, a series of concerts under the stars and among the greenery.

Bring a picnic blanket and chairs and eat your dinner to the sounds of Uncle Ephus, Gilly Girls,  Two For the Road, and JT & Sarah.

Admission is free, and drinks and desserts are available for purchase. The series will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 14, 21, and 28, and Oct. 5.

What’s in the Garden?

If you can’t make it on Thursdays, a trip to the Clovis Botanical Garden is still worth your time. It’s a useful local resource for those who want a nice garden and an equally nice water bill. Specializing in helping people make water-wise, region-appropriate planting choices when they landscape, the garden is both beautiful and informative.

You can walk through several types of gardens, all adaptable to our climate. Did you know our climate is similar to the climate in the Mediterranean? Happily, this doesn’t restrict your gardening to olive trees and cyprus. You can branch out and tour the entire garden to get great ideas, no matter your taste. There’s even a section with different designs geared to different lifestyles—if you prefer rocks and pebbles over plants, for example, Clovis Botanical Garden has you covered.

Forget the plants and put cement and pebbles in your front yard.

Not to make this entire article about me, but I have a secret passion for cacti. I don’t own any, personally, because they seem impractical for a household full of children. But if you’re interested in seeing what will thrive in our gardening zone, take a gander at these beauties below.

One of the most helpful aspects of the Botanical Garden is the fact that all of the plants have markers with their names on it. Not just limited to flowers and plants, there are also sprinkler exhibits that will help you plan a water-wise drip system as well as samplings of mulch.

The goal of the Clovis Botanical Garden is to promote water conservation in Central Valley landscapes, so this is the place to go if you want a beautiful yard without hurting our water tables. As a bonus, native plants are adapted to the ridiculously hot summer we are having, so your investment will probably live longer than a season (no promises).

Even if you’re not in the mood to plant a tree, the Garden is a great place to take a quiet walk. With three acres to explore, you’re bound to find some plants you enjoy. Right now, there are lavender fields that smell amazing, and inviting benches dotting the landscape. It will definitely refresh your senses.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
