South of Shaw is a new local brewery located at 1755 Broadway St #107, Fresno, CA 93721. They worked tirelessly for 3 years preparing to open and finally had their soft opening on January 29, 2022. It is a great addition to downtown Fresno and has already brought in so many customers during the first month. This weekend, March 11 and 12, they are celebrating their grand opening which is an event you will not want to miss out on!
South of Shaw is serving up modern beers in a 100-year-old setting. South of Shaw Beer Company is the latest brewery to open in Fresno. The roaring twenties serves as inspiration behind the design of the brewery. The owner, Doug Dart, loved the idea of having the vibrant red and contrast of black to make you feel like you were taken back in time. It’s a bar with a coffee shop feel – chill, relaxed, a place to enjoy with good friends and even better drinks.
Drink Menu
Their menu consists of a variety of beers and even a selection of wine! Their beer selection varies from blonde ales to dank IPAs including some guest taps totaling their draft list to 12 taps! If that’s not your thing, they also have some options of white and red wines.
Fun fact: When they were digging up trenches for all the water lines they found an old horse shoe and now have it displayed in the bar. You could say they found their own good luck!
While on our brewery tour Doug mentioned how the brewery’s name comes from a from a local 90s rock band whose name is also South of Shaw. In keeping with brewery traditions the three tanks used to brew the beer are actually named after the members of the band! Not Just Beer…
Now, beer is not all they have to offer. There is a convenience here and it’s their kitchen where they serve up some delicious food. They have recently added pizzas for a quick bar bite! They make their pizzas in Neapolitan style. This is a type of pizza that originated in Naples, Italy. This style of pizza is prepared with simple and fresh ingredients. They have your classic margherita pizza but if you are feeling adventurous you should absolutely try the pickle pizza! This pizza includes white sauce, fresh mozzarella, cheddar, and lots of tangy dill pickles. Beware! It is super addicting!
While eating and enjoying your pizza you can sit at their Sisyphus kinetic sand table. It definitely will have you in a trance, and is one of the coolest tables we have ever seen!
