Speakeasy or Man cave?

Did you know there are homes in Fresno and Clovis that have complete basements? I’m not talking about homes that have a stairway down to a small concrete walled area that your grandmother used to store her jarred tomatoes in, or in my case grandfather who kept his wine and whiskey in ;).

Yes the Historic Fresno High area and the Tower District both have some homes here and there with these types of basements; Heck, if you ask an experienced agent like myself, I could point out a few ‘rumored’ one time speakeasies that were housed in the basements of a home or three in the heart of Fresno.

speakeasyAs cool as some of the above basements sound, there are others scattered throughout Fresno and Clovis that are much cooler. Some are just one room, others are several rooms and bathrooms together. One in particular located near Peach and Nees has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a family room (all in the basement) totaling over 2100 square feet below a main level of 2600 square feet!

These newer homes with basements have all of the amenities and features that you would find on the main level of a single level home but with some less obvious benefits like improved energy efficiency, storage, and peace and quiet from your son or daughter who has decided to start a band.

Game room in basementOne of the best benefits of a basement is the fact that it can be used for almost any purpose. A kids’ playroom can be upgraded to a media or entertainment room for watching television or, even a room for playing games when they grow up.

Unusual uses of basements across the world include the construction of a swimming pool area by the businessman Jeremy Paxton who lives on the Thames near Reading. His basement features a guest bedroom, bathroom, study and a motor launch dock to the front section! A whirlpool of a Jacuzzi for four in Irene Lukas’s basement in London and a basement designed to house the Koi carp collection is in a house under construction near Wolver Hampton.

Basement construction in Fresno

There is no local new construction of any now but if you are interested in seeing some existing homes in Fresno, Clovis, or even Madera Ranchos with a basement give myself or your local Realtor a call.

Head YES man at FresYes.com
I grew up in Fresno. Relaxed in its calm breezes, listened with my dad to the crack of the bat at little league baseball games when I was a kid and now take my son to do the same at minor league games. I broadened my mind at its schools (I went to high school right here at San Joaquin Memorial, and to college at Fresno State!) I love that if I drive for two hours in one direction, I can be in the mountains. For two hours in another, luxuriating on a California beach. I can enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere of San Francisco or Los Angeles, but still be able to come home to relaxation, calm, and quiet.

I love where I live, and I also love what I do. I'm lucky to be able to work in a profession in which I get to build relationships; one that has me meeting new people each and every day and helping them to build new lives in my beloved city. I'm lucky enough to work in a profession in which I can marry cutting-edge technologies and marketing techniques to good, old-fashioned, nose-to-the-grindstone work. I am lucky enough to work in a profession that allows me to work as an advocate for my clients; to use every tool at my disposal to get a job done well for them, and with as little stress and expense as possible.

I love my city. I love my job. One inspires my excellence for the other.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
