Young Chef’s Academy Cooks Up Fun for All Ages

I did not always love to cook. In fact, when I was first married, my husband was the master of the kitchen – I felt like I scored big time when I would arrive home from work to the sight of him cookin’ up something good in the kitchen while nursing a glass of wine. But after our family of 2 turned into a family of 3, I decided to work from home and dove into the throws of home cooking. At the time, I didn’t have many recipes under my belt, but I had Pinterest, and a few friends who were killer cooks, so I made it happen! Years later, I love to plan our family meals for the week, write them on a big chalkboard, and keep everyone excited for dinnertime (and an occasional dessert, to boot!).

Whether you’re the cook or the sous chef in your family, there is one local place that is a must for any family chef, Young Chef’s Academy. This cooking corner is located on Fresno’s Champlain & Perrin (close to FIVE restaurant), and has a cooking class for just about everyone. Julie Burleson, founder of Young Chef’s Academy (YCA), has been showing children that cooking as a lifelong skill, since she started her biz in 2003. Classes encourage creativity, kitchen safety, some table manners and etiquette, and a whole lot of fun.

“The kitchen is the pulse of the home, where we learn about life and each other,” says Burleson.

Young Chefs Academy gives local kiddos an innovative environment to learn – one that mimics the at-home kitchen, with bright colors and a funky decor. There are weekly cooking classes for ages 3-5, ages 5-14, and “senior chefs” for the more experienced kid cooks.

But that’s not where the menu ends – Young Chef’s Academy has a big social media following, where they post about events for adults, special cupcake making parties, and so much more. From Macaron & Martinis classes for adults, to PJ Parties cooking up kids’ breakfast for dinner, YCA has a calendar cooked up with events.

If you don’t have plans yet this Valentine’s Day weekend, hit up the Couples Cooking Class ($75/couple), in honor of love day! Perfect for getting out of the house and learning a few good, new recipes from Chef Shayna Telesmanic. You can toss a bottle of wine in the car and bring it to class, too – so fun. Chef Shayna will also be teaching a cooking class on prepping some delish freezer meals for those busy weeks – all from the kitchen at YCA. Check out the full list of events this month online here.

So if it’s getting your kiddos to be experts the kitchen, sharpening your own chef skills, or just having a unique night out with your main squeeze, keep North Fresno’s Young Chef’s Academy on your short list of creative (and delicious) things to do!

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
