There is something magical about the moment a Realtor gets to hand over the keys to a home. Perhaps as magical as that memory you may have of the key you got when you first went to Storyland. Surely you recall using it to hear the story of the Three Little Pigs and other childhood fairy-tales?! Was yours purple, red, or yellow? Perhaps it was blue like mine. Rumors are that a special limited edition gold key will be available soon to celebrate Storylands 50th anniversary!
Storyland opened a few years after Playland, on May 19th 1962. It immediately captured the hearts and imaginations of children across the valley. For those of you who may be new to the valley, Storyland is a walk-through park of Mother Goose stories and nursery rhymes, including classics like Jack and Jill, Goldilocks & the Three Bears, Peter Pan, Humpty Dumpty and more! It is located next door to Playland, a small family amusement park with 13 rides. Some of my kids’ favorites include the famous Willis B. Kyle Express train, the Big Rocko ferris wheel, and the thrilling Octopus ride. During the summer months Splash Junction provides a fun way to cool off!
While Storyland remained opened this winter, Playland re-opens from winter break this month on February 11th 2012. Both are located inside Roeding park at 890 W. Belmont Avenue. For more information, pricing, and hours of operation check out their website at http://storylandplayland.com
When is the last time you visited either park? While the nostalgia remains so much has been changed and added to over the years. Make a point this spring of bringing back some childhood memories and creating some new ones by visiting this historic Fresyes landmark!

We love Storyland and Playland! My kids love to run through Storyland as if it’s a special world, just for them. I enjoy it because it reminds me of times spent there as a child. It’s so magical!
What was your favorite attraction there as a child?
Oh, hands down the merry go round. I even have a picture of me when I was a wee one. I think I loved the idea of real life meeting storybook. It’s kind of like Willy Wonka. If I could ever go to a real chocolate factory, I’d be in heaven. Did you have a favorite as a child?
