iCAN TRI Junior Triathlon Championship This Weekend in Fresno

If your only experience with triathlons is humming the opening bars to Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man,” you should check out the iCAN TRI Triathlon Junior Regional Championship, an amazing competition for young athletes taking place Sunday at Clovis North Educational Center. (Iron Man is the name of a popular triathlon—but you got that).

iCAN’s Coaching Philosophy: Excellence Through Encouragement

The iCAN TRI Club is an accredited, award-winning triathlon club for kids ages 7 to 19. Triathlons are demanding races where participants swim, run, and bike. Although it’s easy to assume triathlon is a sport for seasoned, mature athletes, it’s actually great for young and old athletes alike.

Todd Waldner founded the Fresno-based iCAN TRI Junior Triathlon Club in 2006 to provide a positive approach to training and to help kids get involved with the sport. The club’s goal is to teach life principles through triathlons. A triathlete himself, Coach Todd has 30 years of experience. His focus is on encouraging kids to do their best and to meet their goals, both mentally and physically. The club’s motto is “Confidence, Patience, Determination.”

“To love, to lead by example, to transform stumbling blocks into stepping stones, to participate, to motivate, to encourage—this is my definition of coaching and this is my passion in life,” Waldner says.

Championship Held Sunday in Fresno

The iCAN TRI Triathlon Championship is now in its 6th year and going strong. According to Coach Todd, “Last year’s event was spectacular, with over 195 youth between the ages of 6-19 participating and 38% of the youth participants traveling more than 200 miles to attend.”

This isn’t the only time Fresno’s youth can get together to run, swim, and bike a race. The club offers training sessions for committed athletes—both youth and adult. If you have a child who is interested in pushing themselves mentally and physically, iCAN TRI just might be the place for them.

Even if you aren’t race-ready, what could be more inspiring than watching others compete in more physical activities than I have in a year? Head over to Clovis North early Sunday morning to cheer on these amazing athletes.

Who is FresYes?

Fresyes.com was started by me, Jason Farris. Yes, I'm in real estate. I think that real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes. It's all about the lifestyle, it's about community. Here in the Fresno / Clovis area we have such a wonderful sense of community. I wanted a place that best reflects the people, the places and the lifestyle that we call home. Fresyes.com is that place. We have fabulous authors who share what makes this community of ours so special. I also write here, and not always about real estate. You can find all my posts HERE
